Tragedy in Australian cricket....

Australian cricketer Phil Hughes was struck on the neck by the ball whilst batting for his State team two days ago.
after being rushed to hospital and having part of his skull removed to relieve pressure on his brain, he was put into
a medical induced coma in ICU....
unfortunately, and sadly, for world cricket young 25 year old Hughes died from his head injury earlier today.
it was one of those one in a million freak accidents...
but when a ball harder than a baseball(but approxiamately the same size) hits you whilst travelling at speeds of between
135-150kmh(90-100mph) the results can be horrific...

now, from someone who played serious competative cricket until he was 30ish(ie:me), the effects of seeing someone
gettting hit by a ball, let alone dying from it, leaves me devastated to say the least...
i myself have been struck by similar deliveries from a bowler whilst batting, and let me tell you, it leaves you pretty
shook up to say the least...
i was concussed on one occasion leaving me with a cracked jaw, stitches in my chin and missing half a tooth from that impact.

my thoughts and prayers are not only with Phil Hughes' family right now, but also the entire cricket community worldwide.

Phil, you had the world at your feet and your whole life ahead of you,may you rest in peace,
and i guess the only comfort is that you died doing what you loved...

Such a terrible loss of life!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!
I think I heard somewhere that Phil Hughes was the youngest player since Doug Walters to score a century for Australia, at 20-years-old, and was only 25 when he died. There has been a lot about this story here, as he had played for Hampshire. It is certainly tragic for his family, while Aussie cricket fans will be wondering what he could have achieved in a full career.
