What Are You Listening To?

HUMBLE PIE  "smokin' "  vinyl  1972

the band's fifth studio set...
first without Peter Frampton....
I was/am a an because of ex-Small Faces vocalist Steve Marriott...
a couple of covers on this nine track album...
Cochran's "cmon everybody" and  Junior Walker's "roadrunner"...
not keen on the roadrunner thing, but love the slow burn of the Cochran track....
Stephen Stills guest on a couple of tracks playing Hammond Organ...
a solid blues rock album...
im hearing Black Keys and Black Crowes all over this one...
so, im a huge fan of the band , and like I said, Marriott in particular so its
now wonder I love this album!

the single, nice collage of clips in the video, shame its not an actual clip of the track:

Supertramp - Retrospectacle - a fantastic collection of their hits and one or two other gems as well.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

Supertramp - Crisis, What Crisis? Lovely stuff.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

Mark Hollis - Mark Hollis - the one and only solo album from the brains behind Talk Talk. Very minimalist and introspective - something to listen to while you watch the snow falling outside.

I’ve heard a couple of John Illsley’s solo releases, but not this one - Beautiful You which is a collaboration with Guy Pearle. Hmmmm – there’s more than a nod to Dire Straits on this particular track – Guy Fletcher and Chris White show up on the album too.

Oops - *Greg Pearle - not Guy.

MOTT THE HOOPLE  "the hoople"  vinyl 1974:

sixth and final studio set featuring Ian Hunter on vocals....
Bowie had long gone from being producer/player and writer for these guys
but his influence is all over it...
album starts of really well, gets bogged down in the middle but returns to being
really good towards the end, so three great tunes, three ok ones then three final very
female on the cover is the same one who appears on Roxy Music's debut set...was she a groupie????!
good ones at the end...
probably scores around 2.1 if I was marking it...

two singles off the album:

"the golden age of rock & roll"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNmC-ZT-Eak  tv performance

and the lead off single(my favourite)

Mike Oldfield - Five Miles Out - have not listened to this one for a while. Has moments of brilliance and then others of complete twaddle. Certainly not in my list of favourite MO albums.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.
