Horror Films
#1
Anyone recommend any 'must see' horror films? We're going to have a bit of a horror marathon in a couple of weeks but I don't normally do scary so I don't have a clue.

I'd like at least one zombie related but otherwise - please help!

Sure. Here are the first ten that come to mind.

Zombie [1979]
Black Christmas [1974]
Halloween [1978]
The Exorcist [1973]
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre [1974]
Last House on the Left [1972]
Night of the Living Dead [1968]
Dawn of the Dead [1978]
The Evil Dead [1983]
Alien [1979]

I think they are all essential horror movies. I own all of them on DVD except for The Exorcist.

OK, because Jon mentioned the "classics" I'll name a few other films:

Hute Tension (High Tension in the US or Switchblade Romance in the UK) [2003]
Cannibal Holocaust [1980]
Braindead (more of a splatter movie but it's awesome) [1992]
The Shining [1980]
Ringu (or The Ring if you want to watch the remake) [1998]
[Rec] [2007]

Of course you can still watch some "blockbusters" like The Hills Have Eyes or the Saw series...

Rosemary's Baby is a pretty creepy movie.

I like horror movies that disturb my eqilibrium, and the above along with The Exorcist are the two that have had the most lasting impact on me.

To be fair, I'm not a great movie lover, so can't really comment on most of the more recent examples quoted above.

Thanks boys! much appreciated.

The only one of these I've seen is the Exorcist and I fell asleep half way through it - but I was really tired

I hope you're referring to the movies in the post directly above. 'Cause if you're calling my list "recent" movies you are rather old! Confusedmug:

The only real recent movie mentioned is [rec]. It came to my attention after the obligatory American remake came out this year. I've heard good things and it is on my Netflix list.
