Recommend me a metal band?
as i lay dying
lamb of god
killswitch engage
pantera [owns my <3]
Very good list up there I would some more like
Machine Head
Amon Amarth
Black Dahlia Murder
I'd recommend Mudvayne. There have very strong melodies within what initially sounds like an aggressive assault. The album 'Lost and Found' is their most melodic so probably best to try that first.....the singles 'Happy' and 'Forget To Remember' are good places to start. These guys are incredible musician's....check out some of the funky bass lines
For me, I tend not to play a lot of out and out metal through the whole album, but with Mudvayne I'm disappointed when the album finishes

And secondly, I'd say check out one of my favourite ever songs 'The Diary of Jane' by Breaking Benjamin. Powerful and punchy but amazing melodies, agression, great chorus, great everything....

hope they're of some use
Here are some albums I think you should check out:

Metallica - Master of Puppets
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Iced Earth - Days of Purgatory
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance

Since you like Fear Factory, I think you will like Shadows Fall. They are amazing.
It's difficult to recommend anything unless you give a little directions... There's so much in the metal scene going on.

I prefer 80's style heavy rock/metal and hard rock, or melodic metal. Whitesnake, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Judas Priest, Altaria, Nigthwish, Kilpi, Ratt, Mötley Crüe, Kiss... (I put the myspace-link to Kilpi because it is the least known of these, at least outside Finland).

I had a period when I was in love with Anthrax but it didn't last very long

I'd start with Iron Maiden because Bruce is just SO COOL!! =) And I think he's got excellent voice.
It's painless.
theirs wayyy to many subgenres man
my favorites melodic death metal
bands like
Amon Amarth
At The Gates
Children Of Bodom
Dark Tranquility
In Flames
I second Neurosis and Isis.
The only one not mentioned that I would say to check out is All That Remains.
Maybe some of the older (hell even newer) Avenged Sevenfold.

I agree above with: Slipknot, In Flames, Mudvayne.
Slough Feg are one of the few metal bands I still listen to, and with good reason. Check them out, although it might be hard to find.
Did anyone recommend System of a Down and Tool yet?
I adore them both. Especially SOAD. And I'm not big on metal either.
