Rhode Island rap/hip-hopper with his 4th album. Sort of Eminem sounding in parts. Not your traditional mom and pop rap (how about some banjo?), with a lot of spoken word stuff, and it could even have gone in indie, but here I am. A few good tracks, but overall, just didn't hold up for me. An A for originality though.
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
Worst Track - London Bridge
Best Track - I Was Zero
If it wasn't for the bass, I wouldn't need these hearing aids.
If it wasn't for mistakes, I probably wouldn't be here today.
10 years ago I was 22.
20 years ago I was 12.
30 years ago I was 2.
When I came out my momma I was zero. (x3)
I was zero when I came out my momma, and now everybody knows.
In the before life, I was undead.
I was home schooled, there were no rules.
But I gave it all up, just for the chance to go public.
A celestial scarecrow dancing with the puppets.
A tug in my gut, I'm carrying the world in my stomach.
I'm a surrogate mother-fucker the girls love it.
Birth the suffix and cut the visible string.
Controls much more than a physical thing.
I was born into it, and before I knew it.
I saw the students of poor gettin' hauled off to war.
The law of Judas in the land of the king's tax.
Partaking the Eucharist, than demand your kick-backs.
Spiritual wrist slap, please pass the sacrament.
Ask if big bad black Jesus was African.
Selling a click track, call it a soul-plat.
It's all in how you package it.
The power of a magic trick.
Immaculate concepts, lost in the land of the cross.
I'm standing off with a man of the cloth.
he knows the ins and out's and all I wants the outs.
hes selling real estate for some place in the clouds.
But I'm not investing in intellectual property.
Inventing gender-bending technology.
Because maybe everybody needs to just become a sexual oddity.
Leaving birth to the test tubes and death to the lottery.
There's no one stopping me, I've gotta be self-regulating.
Wealth was escalating, but my poverty was entertaining.
I'm debating, the value of a caste system.
I'm cash backed for wars and wars funded by my tax income.
I find my part of the problem in part of me.
There's always been a difference between what I am and what I wanna be.
It's either Jihadist freak or Jesus seamster.
I heard god is cumming and shes a screamer.
I couldn't understand what she was telling me.
Why everyone thinks that their their own worst enemy.
I followed the manual and I swallowed the skeleton key.
And it unlocked the hell in me.
(So this is my gift to god!) Rippin' at my dick like a tourniquet, syphilis!
(This is my gift to god!) I'm jumpin' out the cake, naked with a shank.
(This is my gift to god!) Unwrap the package confetti made of maggots.
(This is my gift) You call that talent? here's your image back, you can have it.

Consisting of Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek, this hip-hop duo waited 10 years to release the follow up to their debut. Hooked up in Cincinnati in 1997. They have kept busy since that debut doing productionand DJ work for numerous artists including Kanye West and Mos Def. Def gets an appearance here along with others I have never heard of. Five singles are scheduled for release. Throw enough up there, something's bound to stick. Only one track here I liked. Not my thing but it may be yours.

Kansas native transplanted to the big apple to study theatre. Gave that up, moved to Atlanta to return to her love of music. After Outkast featured 2 of her songs on one of his albums, she was signed to Sean "Diddy" Combs label in 2007, an EP was soon to follow. Not your typical soul/hip-hop as I was expecting, as the music here is much more complex, and this is a concept album, although that is hard to grasp. The musical theater training is bursting through. I give her kudos for the originality of some of this, and I liked a few tracks, but the length and number of tracks makes it drag out. Would have been better had it been trimmed down a bit. Tightrope is the first single.

Worst Track - Make The Bus
Best Track - Tightrope
Whoaaa
Another day
I take your pain away
Some people talk about ya
Like they know all about ya
When you get down they doubt ya
And when you dip it on the scene
Yeah they talkin' bout it
Cause they can't dip on the scene
Whatcha talk about it
T-t-t-talkin' bout it
When you get elevated,
They love it or they hate it
You dance up on them haters
Keep getting funky on the scene
While they jumpin' round ya
They trying to take all your dreams
But you can't allow it
Cause baby whether you're high or low
Whether you're high or low
You gotta tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
T-t-t-tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Baby, baby, baby
Whether you're high or low
(High or low)
Baby whether you're high or low
(High or low)
You got to tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Now let me see you do the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
And I'm still tippin' on it
See I'm not walkin' on it
Or tryin' to run around it
This ain't no acrobatics
You either follow or you lead, yeah
I'm talkin' bout you,
I'll keep on blaming the machine, yeah
I'm talkin' bout it,
T-t-t-talkin' bout it
I can't complain about it
I gotta keep my balance
And just keep dancin on it
We gettin funky on the scene
And you know about it,
Like a star on the screen
Watch me tip all on it
Then baby whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
Baby whether you're high or low
(High or low)
Ooh, you gotta tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Yeah, tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Baby, baby, baby
Whether you're high or low
(High or low)
Baby whether you're high or low
(High or low)
Tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Baby let me see you tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
And I'm still tippin' on it
Big Boi
You gotta keep your balance
Or you fall into the gap
It's a challenge but I manage
Cause I'm cautious with the strap
No damage to your cameras damn I thought that
Can I passy
Why you don't want no friction
Like the back of a matchbook
That I pass as I will forward you
And your MacBook
Clothes shows will shut you down
Before we go-go backwards
Act up, and whether we high or low
We gonna get back up
Like the Dow Jones and NASDAQ
Sorta like a thong in an ass crack,
Come on
I tip on alligators and little rattle snakers
But I'm another flavor
Something like a terminator
Ain't no equivocating
I fight for what I believe
Why you talkin' bout it
S-s-she's talkin' bout it
Some callin' me a sinner
Some callin' me a winner
I'm callin' you to dinner
And you know exactly what I mean,
Yeah I'm talkin bout you
You can rock or you can leave
Watch me tip without you
N-N-Now whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
Whether I'm high or low
(High or low)
I'm gonna tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
MMMMMM
(Tip, tip on it)
Baby, baby
Whether I'm high or low
Goblogtainment
(High or low)
High or low
(High or low)
I got to tip on the tightrope
(Tip, tip on it)
Now baby tip on the tightrope
You can't get too high
(You can't get too high)
I said you can't get too low
(We can't get too low)
Cause you get too high
(You can't get too high)
No you'll surely be low
(No, you'll surely be low)
1, 2, 3, Ho!
Yeah, yeah
Now shut up, yeah
Yeah, now put some voodoo on it
Ladies and gentlemen the funkiest horn section in Metropolis
Yeah, oh
We call that Classy Brass!
Ohhhhhhh
OH!
Do you mind?
If I play the ukulele
Just like a little lady
Do you mind?
If I play the ukulele
Just like a little lady
As I play the ukulele
If I play my ukulele
Just like a little lady

Aha! I knew they could do it. A decent rap album without niggas and bitches and ho's scattered throughout. Kudos to you Mr. McCoy. Lead guy from Gym Class Heros, who I also like. And whoever heard of a rap album where the artist goes by their actual name. Revolutionary indeed. There are a bunch of featured artists on here though, so i'ts good to see we're not totally breaking with the formula.

Worst Track - Superbad
Best Track - Billionaire
[Bruno Mars]
I wanna be a billionaire so fricking bad
buy all of the things I never had
uh, I wanna be on the cover of Forbes magazine
smiling next to Oprah and the Queen
[Chorus]
Oh every time I close my eyes
I see my name in shining lights
A different city every night oh
I swear the world better prepare
for when I’m a billionaire
[Travis "Travie" McCoy]
Yeah I would have a show like Oprah
I would be the host of, everyday Christmas
give Travie a wish list
I’d probably pull an Angelina and Brad Pitt
and adopt a bunch of babies that ain’t never had sh-t
give away a few Mercedes like here lady have this
and last but not least grant somebody their last wish
its been a couple months since I’ve single so
you can call me Travie Claus minus the Ho Ho
get it, hehe, I’d probably visit where Katrina hit
and damn sure do a lot more than FEMA did
yeah can’t forget about me stupid
everywhere I go Imma have my own theme music
[Chorus]
Oh every time I close my eyes
I see my name in shining lights
A different city every night oh
I swear the world better prepare
for when I’m a billionaire
oh oooh oh oooh for when I’m a Billionaire
oh oooh oh oooh for when I’m a Billionaire
[Travis "Travie" McCoy]
I’ll be playing basketball with the President
dunking on his delegates
then I’ll compliment him on his political etiquette
toss a couple milli in the air just for the heck of it
but keep the fives, twentys (?) completely separate
and yeah I’ll be in a whole new tax bracket
we in recession but let me take a crack at it
I’ll probably take whatevers left and just split it up
so everybody that I love can have a couple bucks
and not a single tummy around me would know what hungry was
eating good sleeping soundly
I know we all have a similar dream
go in your pocket pull out your wallet
and put it in the air and sing
[Bruno Mars]
I wanna be a billionaire so fricking bad
buy all of the things I never had
uh, I wanna be on the cover of Forbes magazine

Fifth album from the raspy voiced singer/actress from Ohio. A grammy winner in 2000 for the song I Try gave her the boost she needed, after her first album was rejected by Atlantic. Epic took the bait. Three singles have already been released from here, Beauty In The World, Lately and Kissed It. Really liking that first one, edging the album into the like category.

Texas native Paul Slayton is up to album #5. Has done some work with Camillionaire, which led to his own contract and debut in 2004. Blink 182's Travis Barker has production chores on some of this. A featured artist on every track except 1, 3 and 13, so how would you know when you're hearing Paul Wall. A few good tracks here, but not enough to get a passing mark.
