What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 26-07-2014
CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:is that the one where she covers "first we take manhatten"????yes it is
i have the vinyl single of that one, love it!
I'm not one for tribute albums
but seeing as how Jennifer sang backup on LC's early stuff
I knew she had a special connection so I went for it
she did him proud

LEONARD COHEN "the essential...." cd,2002
a double compilation featuring some thirty-one tracks from his 1967 debut set through to his 2001 "ten new songs" album....
the songs deal with sex,religion,spirituality,power,life,love...infact all the things that make up the human psychy....
for the most part they are well crafted songs with deep meaningful lyrics that suit his sombre vocal tones perfectly....
like Dylan, you can hear his vocals change through the years from a young man's voice to gravelly, etched, smoke affected sounds...
only a couple on here i dont like and those ones have those horrible 1980s synth beats...they sound dated....!
seeing as my favourite Cohen track "diamonds in the mine" isnt on this one i have to pick my second favourite "songs of love and hate" here in "famous blue raincoat" as best track.
this album was my introduction to Cohen, from there i picked my favourite tracks and ended up buying two more albums from his 'classic years'....
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

KASEY CHAMBERS "little bird" cd, 2010.
career stats:
studio albums.......6
singles................16
this album.....#3 AU, #32 billboard country chart
singles:
"little bird"............#82 AU
"beautiful mess"....no chart entry
Aussie country songstress Kasey's fifth studio album....
lots of banjo's,fiddles, slide guitar, lovely tunes and harmonies throughout...
very little of that modern crossover country crap that gets played now...
moreso, traditional country modernised slightly to bring it into the 21st century...
Kasey recieved nine nominations out here for this album at the ARIA's and the CMAA awards picking up four gongs including best female vocal, best album, best country album and best duet/collaboration...
this gal is so talented is unbelievable she hasnt really made it in the US bigtime...
probably her best album for me,and like her other albums its so hard to pick one track as the best one as theres four or five that are definately worthy of it!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
worst track: someone like me
best track: bring back my heart
tracks:
1. someone like me **

Boy that was a roller coaster ride. A little too much Reba for me with this 40 track compilation. Only became a semi fan after that Reba show
started on tv. Then I picked this up and regretted it. Another one of those singers that can sing country if she wants too, but chooses the
Dolly Parton route to success. About half of these tracks I would call country, the rest is pop, and not good pop. Album still comes out ok but
I could have pruned it down. Eight love tracks out of 40 isn't bad. And the woman has certainly picked up the awards. This album covers her
early years before she was hot. Wish she would have kept to country. Not posting all of these because I'm not jazzbo.
