JOHNNY CASH "american recordings II:unchained" cd, 1996
career stats:
studio albums..........55
compilations...........104
singles...................165
#1 hits....................13
this album stats: #29 US
singles:
"rusty cage".................no chart entry
"ive been everywhere"...no chart entry
Johnny's second album of his Rick Rubin produced "american recordings" series of albums...
as with the others, this is predominantly a covers collection with a couple of old Cash originals re-recorded for good measure...
each of these albums has what i'd call a curve-ball song...one you wouldnt expect Johnny to even entertain, this time its a cover of Soundgarden's "rusty cage"...
and the way he and his band work it you'd swear it was written for him and not a Grunge outfit...
album guest players include Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and Mick Fleetwood amongst others...
sorry Cashman...but "memories are made of this" is Deano's, not yours...nice try but no thanks.
not the best of these comeback albums, but not bad just the same
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

JOHNNY CASH "life" cd, 2004
after the release of the triple cd boxset "God,love, murder" Columbia records released this one...."life".
its a compilation of songs recorded by Cash between 58-88 that deal with...life,social injustice, economic poverty etc etc...
i dont have the "god, love, murder" albums, just this one...
it is a very good overview of Cash's career IMO, and with eighteen tracks, and seventeen of those, i love, comes pretty close to a perfect score for me...
well worth the money, and also a good place to start your JC cd collection...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

1. suppertime ***
2. country trash ***

JOHNNY CASH "ride this train" cd, 1960
album stats: no chart action
singles:
"going to memphis".....no chart action
Johnny's seventh studio album, and one that is regarded as his first 'concept' album...
songs deal with riding trains across the US, every imaginary stop it stops at gives johnny the chance to sing a song either about the location or people in that location
and throughout in the background we hear the sound effects of a steam train 'click-clacking' the rails and whistles and steam hissing...
originally there were eight tracks on this album back in 1960 but when reissued on cd just prior to his death they added four more tracks that were probably ones ommitted from the original album.
three of the four so-called bonus tracks are pure crap, or as Jerome would say..."all of Johnny Cash's material is crap!"
anyway, the original album tracks would scrape through as a 'like' album, but with the extras it doesnt make the grade,so...
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
worst track: when papa played the dobro
best track: going to memphis
tracks:
1. loading coal **
2. slow rider **
3. lumberjack **
4. dorraine of ponchartrain *
5. going to memphis **
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNoFbwxbDfs audio
6. when papa played the dobro *
7. boss jack **
8. old doc brown *
9. the fable of willie brown **
10.second honey moon *
11.the ballad of the harpweaver *
12.smiling bill maccoll *

What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 18-08-2014
Merle Haggard did a similar train themed album
complete with the sound effects
What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-08-2014
really...?
i thought the train sounds were annoying and distracting to say the least

JOHNNY CASH "the essential...." cd, 2002.
double disc, thirty six track compilation of JC's biggest and best known songs...
album is primarily filled with tracks from the 1950s and 1960s, obviously!, because thay were his 'glory years'...
theres a few things from the 1970s and beyond but not much...
all up though, this is a pretty solid collection of songs and does represent his career pretty well IMO...
its also probably the best collection of JC's material i have seen, and im a huge fan!
okay...
as you will notice, i only dislike one track on here..."girl from the north country"...i love Cash and Dylan but i just cannot get my head around this one for some reason...
best track on this one for me has to be "jackson"...with june Carter...the chemistry these two have together is just sublime, probably the best "break up-make up","love you-hate you-f#ck you-love you" songs ever written IMO.
as a footnote, this album has just spent its 604th week on the Australian "country music albums chart" and still sits at #7 on it this week...
album has already gone 6x platinum out here which is an extraordinary effort by any artist IMO
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
worst track: girl from the north country
best track: jackson
