my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-09-2013

THE SPECIAL A.K.A "live!-ep" 1980

a live five track ep that reached #1 in the UK for The Specials/Special aka....
single/ep failed to chart here and rightfully so as "ska" never took off here in a big way!
no live versions of the tracks on here, so i cant post studio versions of a live disc...

My first listen...I like it! Very uptempo!,,thanks Crazy mate!
CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:BRUCE FOXTON "freak" b/w "writing on the wall" 1983

debut single from the ex-Jam bassist Foxton...
"freak was written after he saw Elephant Man movie...musically it is quite heavy, "b" side is a lot slower, took me ages to like that one,
single failed to chart here, but probably worth a listen for something different if you havent heard it before

Too bad FGTH only had two albums! I watched their live video awhile ago and they were an amazing band from Liverpool!
CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD "two tribes" b/w "one february friday" 1984

from one of my favourite albums from the 1980s....
brilliant single from Holly Johnson and the lads....think i do prefer Relax over this one, but i still love it..."b" side, piece of crap...
single made it to #4 on the charts back in the day

i dont own and nor have i heard their second album entitled "liverpool" so i cant comment on that one, but their debut set "welcome to the pleasuredome" is an absolute classic from the 1980s IMO....so many styles of music on there, from the dance stuff of "relax","two tribes" and the title track, thru the beautiful ballad "the power of love", to the punked up version of Springsteen's "born to run" and the very goos cover of "do you know the way to san jose", even things like "krisco kisses", "only star in heaven" and the skits between the songs are very good....

DEPECHE MODE "just cant get enough" b/w "any second now" 1981

this was their second or third single release in their home country but their first single released here...
a great new wave anthem that is as good today as it was back then...
"b" side is a piece of crap like most of their "b" sides were, which is a shame as a lot of their albums were very good!
single got to #4 on our charts here, deserved to be a #1 hit IMO, but hey...who am i to say what should be a hit or not a hit!

pretty sure these guys were one hit wonders? i guess this song is always recorded by one hit wonders, are you reading this Norman?!?!?
love this version, but love the original more, great song by whoever sings it
single got to #3 here, again, probably deserved the top spot though!
