The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - PJ20 - 15-10-2014 Hard Sun - Into the Wild soundtrack by Eddie Vedder The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - Jerome - 15-10-2014 jazzboCR Wrote:Mr. Knopfler has so grown in every aspect. He has not just absorbed all the elements of this movie but the essential sweet yet hopeless sadness of Hubert Selby's original novel. Thanks for sharing, Jerome. BTW, I truly believe that Mr. Knopfler is not a rock'n'roller--that was just an easy, immediate means of expression, an honest way of making a name to the public (insiders were already convinced)--he's an American Expressionist/Impressionist, kinda like that Connecticut insurance guy--you know who I mean. Between him and Elvis Costello and a few others. I believe we live in a time when a resurgence of such music coming. You're part of that too, BTW (such little of yours as I've heard). The nicest thing anyone has ever said about my stuff - thx. As for LETB, I have to read this novel - so that's on the to do list for sure. I find the mix of his music and that single haunting image on the front cover alluring. Makes you want to know more about the characters. The blonde, al la Marilyn Monroe, and the gritty background. You just know it's going to be a good read. The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - Jerome - 15-10-2014 Cat Stevens - The Wind - apart from 'O Caritas', this is the track that hits home the most. Just love it. oooh forgot 'Sweet Scarlet' - now there's a track to turn your head inside out! The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - Jerome - 16-10-2014 Amy Winehouse - Back to Black. So sad that this great untapped talent has departed these shores. Another rock casualty. The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - SteveO - 16-10-2014 I have strangely begun to appreciate Amy's music more so since her passing! Good choice J Man! The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-10-2014 i actually saw a doco on Amy a few months ago, had interviews with her(prior to death obviously!), her family, friends, aquaintancies etc.... it appears she was self destructive and on her way to an 'early grave' even in her early teens...was just the way she was! shame really, because her "back to black" album was/is a "classic" piece of work IMO,lyrically, it summed up her life perfectly. and her voice....what a voice,up there with the likes of Aretha Franklin IMO... only Adele can match it with strength, power and frailty of the modern crop of singers. The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - PJ20 - 17-10-2014 Even flow - PJ ![]() The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - Jerome - 17-10-2014 SteveO Wrote:I have strangely begun to appreciate Amy's music more so since her passing! Good choice J Man! I agree - I just don't know why. The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - SteveO - 19-10-2014 ^ It seems to happen frequently...I think we the music listener are attracted to artists posthumously because of the accolades they receive after their passing! It's a strange sort of phenomenon...the incomparable Eva Cassidy,Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, Kirsty MacColl, Tim Hardin, Tim Buckley, Donny Hathaway, Jim Croce, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Townes Van Zandt...many more I'm sure! Totally agree. Sometimes this reappraisal begins immediately (if there's been foreknowledge or a slow decline); sometimes it takes little while (plane/bus crashes and such). It allows us to heighten the difference between the artist and the sometimes bland context (great in comparo with some very-goods OR great amongst the minnows?). And then there's that whole other category--expats not appreciated in their home country until their demise (Dexter Gordon and other jazz expats-to-Europe kinda fit in here) |
