^Love that owl! Will have to listen to the whole album - I don't know it.

Here is Pat Metheny’s beautiful rendition of ‘Don’t Know Why’ from his stunning acoustic offering, One Quiet Night. (He also plays ‘Ferry Cross the Mersey’ no way it has ever been done before, nor will be again!)

Such a great ‘go to’ album for calm and reason in a frenetic world. It feels as though there’s a mathematically precise rationale behind what Metheny does that makes supremely ordered sense; and at the same time, nothing could be further removed from being even remotely clinical. He’s a genius.

Hard to follow Pat Metheny...however here's Canadian axeman Pat Travers fairly underrated hard rock blues guitarist who is still active today! From the band's 1978 album Heat in the Street...the title track burns!

Ruby has done a superior job of explaining why Pat Metheny is so important. I believe he has been mischaracterized/overlooked because he was on a label that emphasized the softer or more esoteric sides of jazz and world music: ECM. Just look at their stable of artists for proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ECM_Records_albums
Here's that version of the Gerry and the Pacemakers' classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUpF91FTcz0

Glad to see you post ECM (EDITIONS of CONTEMPORARY MUSIC), Jazz man! I have posted some ECM giants , Garbarek and Jarrett but to see you give it a shoutout warms my heart, man! It has been a long time favourite record label of mine since 1976 ! JAN GARBAREK, great sax man, Keith Jarrett, Meredith Monk, Norma Winstone, Terje Rypdal, Art Lande, Pat Metheny (Watercolors album!!!!), Gary Burton, ...the list goes on and on! I find the music is not straight ahead jazz for the most part but there is so much interesting music on ECM that at times one cannot really define or categorise it!

From the ECM album Watercolors here's Icefire!

And now for something completely different. "Calling Elvis" from On Every Street - Dire Straits. Such a distinctive sound!!
