Scores a like from me. Another Motown heavyweight that never got the attention of the Temps. Follow up to
their #1 hit, Reach Out, I'll Be There. Off of there fifth album, Reach Out, which scored a #11 here and a
#4 in the UK. It would be their highest charting album here. A few Tops songs I would score higher trhan
this one and maybe they'll show up later. Jackson Five covered this on their debut album in 1969. Also
Phil Collins on his album of soul covers.

Minus a few you could just throw all the songs the Beatles made onto this list, in any order, and it would
seem appropriate. Recorded for the Revolver sessions, this never appeared on the album, nor did it's a-
side of the single, Paperback Writer. Once again I don't understand how you get a chart placing for a song
that is the b-side. I assume there is some logic for it that is just not commonly known. Written about
people bitching about the weather all the time. One of the early uses of studio gimmickry by the band,
where at the end some lyrics are played back in reverse. Said to be Ringo's best performance, McCartney's
bass line is what stands out for me.

Noel Gallagher's original name for Oasis was "rain" purely because he loved this song.

i cant speak for other countries regarding "b-sides" charting or becoming double-A sides, but in the UK in the 50s thru 70s radio stations used to occasionaly flip over the singles and play the 'b-sides'...if people liked them and asked for them in record shops then that particular song was recorded as the 'sale',thus making the chart, but instead of having both songs occupying places on the charts they would call it a double a sided hit
then it got to the 1980s and artists/labels would release it as a double a-side in order to gain sales...ie: you might buy it for one of the tracks, then came the 12" single which would again, get more copies sold due to other tracks on board or extended versions, thus, giving fals sales figures as so if a single sold 500,000 copies it wasnt neccessarily 500,000 different purchasers as in the old days...it was more like 200,000 individuals buying the single with hardcore fans buying all versions of the disc...
so with those figures a single might get to #1, but without the alternate versions etc, it might only get to #6 for example...falsifying sales figures IMO...
i remember The Stranglers single "golden brown" was at #2 in the UK(only released on 7") and The Jam were at #1 with "town called malice/precious"...the Stranglers management were pissed because the Jam single was available in 7"/12" formats, so thousands purchaesd both versions...it was this that became the so called norm we see happening now,
another example is frankie goes To hollywood's "relax"...they released a different 12" mix of the song every month or so, so fans bought it, keeping it in the charts for 52wks which was really unheard of then...
its all about the mighty "$", big business!!!!!!
