Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 09-11-2012 Very interesting piece CH!I remember distinctly in the sixties that the 45s single were listed with both the A side and B side in some cases...Hey Jude/ Revolution, Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane, All You Need is Love/Baby You're a Rich Man, CCR had a lot of double single releases also ! It reflected the high quality of their music at the time ! CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:nice song, not great-just nice.. It reflected the high quality of their music at the time ! of course some singles were released as double A-sides deliberately.... i know The Jam released Goin' Underground/dreams of children as one... weller wanted 'dreams' as the a-side,the company wanted 'underground'...the only solution....comprimise!!! Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 10-11-2012 #468 - Staple Singers - Respect Yourself - 1971 running recap for me - 3's=21, 2's=9, 1's=3 this one - *** from the album: Be Altitude: Respect Yourself Written by Luther Ingram, Mack Rice Produced by Al Bell Chart action: #12 US the players: Roebuck "Pops" Staples - guitar, lead vocal Mavis Staples - lead vocal Cleotha Staples - backing vocals Yvonne Staples - backing vocals Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section - instruments Never know how to describe funk other than to say this is what it sounds like, at it's best. The civil rights movement had peaked. Stax artist Luther Ingram said to writer Mack Rice that black folks needed to show some respect for themselves and a song was born. The Staples were primarily known as a black gospel group in their early days. It wasn't until they signed with Stax records in 1968 that their sound began to reach the masses. Even then it took a few albums before this gem was released. The song reached an even higher chart placement of #5 when covered by Bruce Willis in 1987. Think I'll stick to the original. Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 11-11-2012 #467 - Jay-Z ft. UGK - Big Pimpin - 1999 running recap for me - 3's=21, 2's=9, 1's=4 this one - * from the album: Vol. 3: Life And Times Of S. Carter Written by Jay-Z, Bun B, Pimp C, Timbaland, Kyambo Joshua Produced by Timbaland Chart action: #18 US, #23 UK the players: Jay-Z UGK some beat machine Not my thing but it may be yours. Never heard this one before. Runnin' in the wrong hood I guess. Only thing worse was watching the video for it. Never heard of UGK. Supposed to be a middle eastern sound for the beat. The beat used to be called music. Once the song made some money, a lawsuit was filed claiming copyright infringement. Not sure how that came out. A previous suit had been thrown out. Jay-Z later revealed he regretted the song's lyrics. "It was like, I can't believe I said that. And kept saying it. What kind of animal would say this sort of thing?" That should sum it up.
