What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 13-12-2010

Tonight I am going to cast my mind back all the way to PF's 'Obscured by Clouds'. Come to think of it the first time I heard this I probably was obscured by clouds.......

To be followed by Lee Clayton's 'Naked Child' - a memoir from my wild-child past. The volume is going to 11 tonight. I have had enough of bloody work and it's time to blow the cobwebs away. And probably what's left of my hair as well.

By the way those lyrics of 'Riders on the Storm' reminds me of just how unusual this guy was. I used to date a girl many moons ago who went to visit his grave. She was obviously a fan. She got there early one morning. There was some biker guy and two hookers at his grave - all loaded. It takes all types to make an icon!

Tiggi Wrote:^ There's definitely something about LA Woman that I really like.

Have you heard American Prayer ?? I've always quite liked the idea of it, but the reviews are uniformly dire so I've never tried it.

I'd be interested in your opinion if you've heard it...

I love it.
Bought it when it came out as I was a huge Doors fan.
Didn't like the way it was made with Morrison having no input.
But it grew on me fast.
Wish I had it handy to review now.
Somewhere in those 30 boxes.

Aha! I found one. My Elvis collection is very bare. A five album box set covers the hits pretty well. Other than that, a few gospel and this soundtrack is all I can recall being buried in the boxes. My musical experience began in the early sixties, and was swept away with that british invasion thing that happened around then. I would not appreciate the talents of the king until later in life. Too late to go back without the sacrifice of what was current. A teenagers allowance doesn't go that far. Not sure where I picked this one up. One of his best movies they say. The highlight is obvious with Can't Help Falling In Love. A few throwaways are also apparent with any soundtrack. The album went to the top of the charts here with that single at #2 and Rock-A-Hula Baby at #23.

Worst Track - Ito Eats

Best Track - Can't Help Falling In Love

Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you
For I can't help falling in love with you

Another stone cold classic by the Steve Miller Band. Another one I can't get enough of lately.

Their second album and well on the way to superstardom. Graded out surprisingly well with 3 of the 9 tracks getting a top score, with 2 clunkers. Synth pop/rock at it's best I guess. The band would do better in the U.K. than here with this album to #2 there and #6 here. The title track peaked at #14 here and Hungry Like The Wolf at #3. MTV probably made them as big as they became, as I recall the heavy airplay of those tracks. Although their peak was brief, the band is still kicking I think with changes in the lineup. Don't imagine the video for that last clip got aired anywhere.

Worst Track - Last Chance On The Stairway

Best Track - The Chauffeur

Out on the tar plains.
The glides are moving.
All looking for a new place to drive.
You sit beside me.
So newly charming.
Sweating dew drops glisten fresh in your side.

And the sun drips down bedding heavy behind.
The front of your dress all shadowy lined.
And the droning engine throbs in time with your beating heart.

Way down the lane away.
Living for another day.
The aphids swarm up in the drifting haze.
Swim seagull in the sky.
Towards that hollow western Isle.
My envied lady holds you fast in her gaze.

And the sun drips down bedding heavy behind.
The front of your dress all shadowy lined.
And the droning engine throbs in time with your beating heart.

And the sun drips down bedding heavy behind.
The front of your dress all shadowy lined.
And the droning engine throbs in time with your beating heart.

Sing, Blue Silver.

And watching lovers part.
I feel you smiling.
What glass splinters lie so deep in your mind.
To tear out from your eyes.
With a thought to stiffen brooding lies.
And I'll only watch you leave me further behind.

Sing, Blue Silver.

you wouldnt believe it but i just put this one on, then saw your review...spooky or what???, 2.1 is about right, and 'the chauffeur' is IMO the best track also.

i believe they still have their original lineup,

they had four top 10 hits off the album here in Australia: hungry like the wolf, my own way, rio & save a prayer, album hot to #1

So you're saying out of all of our albums, we both picked the same one to listen to at around the same time?
Now that's downright freaky?
Are we brothers or what?
