What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 07-01-2011 Barclay James Harvest - Eyes of the Universe - forgot how good this was. What Are You Listening To? - Thraak - 07-01-2011 Always refreshing to revisit your favourite albums now and again. One of the best songs ever for me! He even mentions the River Clyde in it! What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 08-01-2011 from my library (vinyl) Not very good ones either. The other voices. Sure makes you appreciate Jim. Their first of two albums after his passing. The music is still all Doors, as you would expect. Recording of this minus Jim, had begun before his death while he was vacationing in France. He never showed up for the vocals. Both Robby and Ray ended up laying those down, and neither can come close. They could have at least laid the Doors to rest and come up with a new name. There was no Nirvana after Cobain. The album went to #31 on the charts with a single of Tightrope Ride at #71. Nice live clip on #6. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Wandering Musician Best Track - In The Eye Of The Sun In the eye of the sun before the world had begun Takin' it easy, I was havin' some fun Loafin' and a jokin' it was all energy No such thing as you and or me No time, you are mine In the eye of the sun before the world had begun It had been alot of work the last time around Needed a rest, a chance to just lie down Always on the go, no time to kill Alot of runnin' to and fro hard working in the mill So it blew up and I threw up Into the eye of the sun before the world had begun Well I hung around, don't know how many years No more troubles, no more fears Had alot of rest w/nothing to do But I got kinda bored with nothin' to do I wanted flesh and blood, skin and bones Multidimensional, universal home I was space and time up and down Live and dead, blood all around I knew there'd be trouble, but I could pull through So I thought of the world and humans too. 1) In The Eye Of The Sun - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7u8rlF2z3_s 2) Variety Is The Spice Of Life - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKn8hIG4HPQ 3) Ships w/Sails - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrzDU_tmzBI 4) Tightrope Ride - * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyK7dFQPhyI 5) Down On The Farm - * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw-B8VyNQPc 6) I'm Horny, I'm Stoned - ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxEXlajIsjU 7) Wandering Musician - * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xB45Wcn6CI 8) Hang On To Your Life - * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlcgQcxAe8g 3's - 0 2's - 4 1's - 4 Grade - 1.5 What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 09-01-2011 ![]() 40th anniversary issue of their debut, hence the pink cover, as originally used for the album's Italian release ?! Wonderful blend of Soul & Blues, with a hint of Psychedelia, from 1968. The piano of Gary Brooker, combined with Matthew Fisher's organ, and Robin Trower's guitar gave the band a three-pronged instrumental attack which has much to offer. The anniversary issue bundles up a number of contemporaneous singles, including A Whiter Shade of Pale, & Homburg. A winner. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 09-01-2011 from my library (vinyl) ![]() The seventh album from the project and one of the most commercially successful due to the single Don't Answer Me which is my favorite here. Lovin' the sax riff on that. Nothing like some good sax early in the morning. Four vocalists taking the lead here with group co-founder Eric Woolfson getting the nod for the most. He's no doubt the best. The other notable vocalist for me is former Zombie Colin Blunstone. Not the groups best effort for me, but with 3 top rated tracks, certainly worth having. The album reached #15 in the U.S. and #24 in the U.K. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Pipeline Best Track - Don't Answer Me If you believe in the power of magic I can change your mind And if you need to belive in someone Turn and look behind When we were living in a dream world Clouds got in the way We gave it up in a moment of madness And threw it all away Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone... Can you change the things we've said and done? If you belive in the power of magic It's all a fantasy So if you need to belive in someone Just pretend it's me It ain't enough that we meet as strangers I can't set you free So will you turn your back forever On what you mean to me? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on you island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone... Can you change the things we've said and done? Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Run away and hide from everyone... Don't answer me, don't break the silence Don't let me win Don't answer me, stay on your island Don't let me in Can you change the things we've said and done? What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 09-01-2011 Here you go http://www.edgar-allan-poe-musical.com/ What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 09-01-2011 Listening to The Division Bell by Floyd. I know a lot of Floyd fans think anything post-Waters is second-rate material, but this album just keeps growing on me. Constantly noticing different sounds in the mix. As a final album from a band with a huge reputation it's actually very good - a return to their roots in one way. That hurdy-gurdy carnival sound on 'Poles Apart' is a masterful touch. A fitting epitaph to the psychedelic dream. (maybe 'A Requiem for the Post-War Dream??). Marvellous stuff - wish it was about 10 times longer. Also reading a few comments from Mr Gilmour. He said that 'The Final Cut' was the best Roger Waters solo album and the worst Pink Floyd album. (personally I think it's brilliant and actually prefer it to 'The Wall'). He also said that it should have been called 'The Final Straw' which I find quite funny. |
