A song ennobling Craig Breedlove's world-record-setting car. A "jet without wings" indeed: https://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A86.JygDEMRUBzwAAN8PxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTB0c2puYm1xBHNlYwNzYwRjb2xvA2dxMQR2dGlkA1lIUzAwM18x?p=the+spirit+of+america+car&back=https%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3D%2522the%2Bspirit%2Bof%2BAmerica%2522%2Bcar%2Bpic%26type%3Dch.40.w7.nt._.us.avg._._%26param2%3Dnew_tab_search%26param3%3Dch.40.w7.nt._.us.avg._._%26hsimp%3Dyhs-fh_lsonsw%26hspart%3Davg%26ei%3DUTF-8&w=463&h=280&imgurl=m.blog.hu%2Fau%2Fautohistory%2Fimage%2Fturbina%25205%2FSpirit%2520of%2520america%25201_01.jpg&size=39KB&name=Spirit%2520of%2520america%25201_01.jpg&rcurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcar-racing.knoji.com%2Fland-speed-records-from-spirit-of-america-green-monster-thrust-2-and-thrust-ssc%2F&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcar-racing.knoji.com%2Fland-speed-records-from-spirit-of-america-green-monster-thrust-2-and-thrust-ssc%2F&type=&no=7&tt=119&oid=a08342d777ea0fd00da556722bc98faa&tit=Land+Speed+Records+from+Spirit+of+America%2C+Green+Monster%2C+Thrust+2+and+...&sigr=13cmnu7vn&sigi=12bssnlpi&sign=110lqlbjk&sigt=103d1h5lg&sigb=165q74jh8&fr=yhs-avg-fh_lsonsw&hspart=avg&hsimp=yhs-fh_lsonsw

Better by You, Better than Me by Spooky Tooth from their Spooky Two album. The band members had colourful post-Spooky careers: Luther Grosvenor was an underrated guitarist who later formed Widowmaker with Keith Ellis, drummer Mike Kellie weirdly became a member of punk band The Only Ones and Greg Ridley joined Humble Pie on bass. Spooky Tooth had two keyboard playing frontmen in Mike Harrison and Gary Wright. The latter went on to a very successful solo career in the US, with a very non-Spooky style that I found disappointing; Mike Harrison also had a solo career, about which I know nothing. Better By You itself became embroiled in the idiotic backwards tape trial of (I think) 1985, after it was later covered by Judus Priest. Better by You, Better the Me, played as it was intended by Spooky Tooth, is a spikey heavy rock/ progressive hybrid from 1969 and a track I never tire of hearing. It is an Island Records classic, standing alongside King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man of which it is a contemporary and the Spooky Two album is well worth hearing too.

Hi Jazzbo, thank you! I remember being very young and going going with my family to The Museum Of Science and Industry, in Chicago. On display there is the "Spirit Of America"! If memory serves it topped out at 530 plus MPH and it was the "Spirit Of America" The Beach Boys sang about. Maybe that is where I got my passion for motor sports. Below is a video of that record breaking run to the music of The Beach Boys!!

Bob, thanks for the share. Funny thing, it set the motorcycle record because it had only 3 wheels (the FIA were such pricks--the list of commercially-produced 3 wheel cars is as long as your arm.); it was the FIM that certified and accepted the record. Full story here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_of_America_(automobile).

...And Big Ears, I loved Spooky Tooth from minute 1. Here's that tune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEX6VYfkHXI They killed on this Beatles song, bringing it a righteous soulful edge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8RthS9cF0c << We'll never see their like again, more's the pity.
And not so BTW, here's 3/4-hour more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdsJyB6Zm8k << Interesting and informative comments

Gary Wright worked with the Beatles and Apple. Mick Jones, later of Foreigner, was a member of Spooky Tooth, as was Mike Patto of Patto and Boxer.

Jeff Beck based his rendition of Benjamin Britten's 'Corpus Christi Carol' on Jeff Buckley's interpretation - with his guitar taking on the vocal duty. Even non-lovers of instrumentals might be swayed by this one - it makes you become still.

Couldn't find a youtube clip to my liking, and it's really not necessary to look at anything at all while this is playing - http://grooveshark.com/#!/search?q=jeff+beck+corpus+christi+carol
