I like this! Never heard of The Moka Band but they're worth exploring!

Jeff Lynne's interpretation of "Smile" from Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times. I like the rationale behind Long Wave, his album of standards, and I think he's done them well.

To quote Jeff Lynne - "I call this new album Long Wave because all of the songs I sing on it are the ones heard on long wave radio when I was a kid growing up in Birmingham, UK. These songs take me back to that feeling of freedom in those days and summon up the feeling of first hearing those powerful waves of music coming in on my old crystal set. My dad also had the radio on all the time, so some of these songs have been stuck in my head for 50 years. You can only imagine how great it felt to finally get them out of my head after all these years."

Not to be a nay-sayer but this song did not need the "help". An artist can do whatever they want with a song but Lynne's version will never replace this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN8oLGBNXpE << Incidentally, Chaplin wrote the music in '36; the lyrics and title were added 18 years later.

This was a very personal project for Jeff Lynne; his intent was not to attempt to better the originals, merely to pay them fond and nostalgic tribute in his own style. For the most part, I enjoy his interpretations -others may not, which is, of course, their prerogative.

At least he was honest in his choice of stage name--hope he doesn't get defenestrated (the word for getting thrown out a window) like Mr. Baker did.

Joseph Robbins sings this track. I only know about him because I got chatting to his parents who gave me the link. His father is a respected muso, so this young singer has a sound musical background and it shows, IMHO. I’m posting it because it has stayed with me … I think we might be hearing more from Joseph in the future.
