What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-01-2011

JazzyRandy Wrote::eek: Not if you love great music. There are many many many many more Motown albums I need to own. But you're right that this is ONE of the Motown albums anyone should own. Fine review.

yeh, sorry, i miswrote what i was thinking, what i meant to say was:
apart from motown compilations, these are two you need in your collection.

thanks for pulling me up on it:eek:

A great live album by one of the absolute best bands to ever pick up instruments.

CEE LO GREEN "the lady killer" 2010.

this has only been out for about three months. i was going to review it as a new release initially but when i started to rate it, it came out quite high and after Grinderman2 and Le Noise high initial ratings, i was worried it would diminish and so i waited, i thought to see how it fared over a bit of time.
i neednt have waited though, ive listened to this on its own, alongside other soul/r&b cds from the '60s and '70s and it stacks up to my initial thoughts of it.
the lyrics are intelligent and emotive which adds to a sense of sincerity, which sadly lacks in a lot of modern R&B/soul music. The music itself is as good as any Motown track i have heard...and i love Motown. Cee Lo's vocals are sublime,he has strength when required to express a feeling and smooth silky vocals to add 'ooze' and sensuality to the other occasions.
i dont like comparing vocalists to the 'great' soul singers back in the day but with this one it is justified...Cee Lo's vocals ARE comparable to Jackie Wilson, Smokey Robinson, stevie Wonder and Curtis Mayfield, and i dont think i am exagerating in saying so. either, any or all of these artists could have sung these songs.

if you like 'real' r&b/soul music you will enjoy this album and IMO it will stand the test of time.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: the intro and outro (not really songs??)

Re: Cee Lo Green's Ladykiller
It's a pretty good album. His first two are better, IMO. This new one is more pop-oriented than the first two. Still good, but kind of too glossy to be a top-shelf release for me.

I've never been a big Nicki Minaj fan but i found this song named "Monster" with Kanye, Nicki and a couple others i dont realy care about and she realy impressed me there with her change of voice to suit what she was singing Smile

I wasn't a believer of the Minaj-Hype either. But, like you, I was very impressed with her contributions to "Monster". It made me want to try her album, but I've held off so far. I'd hate to buy it and feel like a sucker.

Right now
Adel "21" what and outstanding album.
A cat from Europe named Alain Clark that I just found out about. Two albums Live It Out (2007) & Colorblind (2010). Real R&B at its finest.
The first album from Levi Stephens out of Washington D.C. entitled This Way. Sort of a Pop/R&B hybrid.
Eumir Deodato, The Crossing, wonderful R&B/Jazz fusion.
Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Come And Get It. You will swear you were back in 1969. What a singer and what a band.
