What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 10-04-2011 Bought REM's 'Collapse into Now' 3 or 4/10 - nothiong really stands out. Pretty pedestrian to me. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-04-2011 ![]() GARY GLITTER "rock 'n' roll:greatest hits" cd. i was shocked to find i had this in my collection, considering i used my hammer on my other GG records(albums,cd and singles) when he became a convicted paedophille, firstly in the UK and then in Vietnam. on principle, i have refused to play this for a review, secondly, it is now in a hundred bits in my bin, thirdly, i wasnt going to mention it to give him exposure here...even though he is good at exposing himself! a fat, balding, depraved individual who deserves to be forgotten from memory IMO, i have no time for this vile pig who preyed on the innocence of children for his own gratification...enough said! feel free to tell me i should seperate the 'animal' from the music, but i cant...strange, considering i can for Charles Manson, but IMO hurting children is the worst crime i can think of. What Are You Listening To? - gryphon - 15-04-2011 Much that we all know what Gary is and what he does................???????????????? Before you subject the CD to the hammer dig out Rock and Roll ( Parts 1 and 2 ) and listen carefully to the excellent two drummer contribution..................It is really hard to get two drummers just out of sync to produce the best effect ...............and here it is done to perfection !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-04-2011 ![]() NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE "ragged glory" 1990,cd. #31 US, #15UK, #62Aust. back around 1989 NY was already listening to his back catalogue of tapes in order to release his 2010 boxset "archives vol.1", it was during this back trekking that he realised that he loved the guitar sounds of things like "cowgirl in the sand","down by the river" etc from his "everybody knows this is nowhere" album and after the dissapointing 1980's sounds of his albums he wanted to get Crazy Horse back to what they do best...raw,passionate,warts 'n' all, one or two take recordings with little production. the result was "ragged glory"! critics and lots of NY fans call this style "grunge" because he was cited as a major influence to Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain, true, he was an influence to those two musicians...but so was James Taylor and Neil Finn, neither who could be compared to grunge in any way, shape or form! this album is a good album of NY at his heaviest and loudest, but it is not a 'great' album, moreso a return to some half decent music after the horrible "geffen" years. and for the first time in a long while there are some great harmonies on this one. I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: mother earth(natural anthem) best track: mansion on the hill tracks: 1. country home*** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMxtOdf41dA audio 2. white line** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tnkSMYEfkQ audio 3. f#!kin' up** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewKdLEBcHRQ live 4. over and over*** #33 US http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3PV8rDez5c video 5. love to burn** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoP_3NVuhO8 live 6. farmer john** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXOeNLs0EBY video 7. mansion on the hill*** #3 US http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1WpgTzf8nk video 8. days that used to be** 9. love and only love** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvkmZ-5AmGw audio 10.mother earth(natural anthem)* 3s=3 2s=6 1s=1 rating: 2.2 What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 21-04-2011 ![]() Free were Led Zeppelin's slightly-less-talented cousins IMHO. Nonetheless this has a deserved reputation as a top live album. Free's soulful Blues Rock is remarkably sophisticated for its' time, and Paul Kossoff's guitaring is purty damned good. A very good, raw live album, augmented by a bucketload of further live tracks (and one studio track (I think !!)). AllMusic 4+/5 stars. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 23-04-2011 from my son-in-law (cd) Number 15 from the Boss. First with the E Street Band since The Rising. Interesting that the album release date was pushed up a week on vinyl only, in order to qualify for the 2007 grammys. So much for anti-establishment. Nominated for best rock album, but losing out to Foo Fighters. Listed as #2 on Rolling Stones best albums of the year. Of course the album went straight to #1 almost everywhere. The legend lives on. I was a huge Bruce fan from the beginning, but started burning out after Tom Joad. Not because of that album, but seven years between releases is a little much if you want to stay on my radar. This is a decent Bruce album for me but would take a few more spins to really click. Two singles of Radio Nowhere and Girls In Their Summer Clothes, neither of which made much of an impact. Have to give the Girls track the nod as my favorite, with the title track as my worst. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Magic Best Track - Girls In Their Summer Clothes Well the street lights shine Down on Blessing Avenue Lovers they walk by Holdin' hands two by two A breeze crosses the porch Bicycle spokes spin 'round Jacket's on, I'm out the door Tonight I'm gonna burn this town down And the girls in their summer clothes In the cool of the evening light The girls in their summer clothes Pass me by Kid's rubber ball smacks Off the gutter 'neath the lamp light Big bank clock chimes Off go the sleepy front porch lights Downtown the store's alive As the evening's underway Things been a little tight But I know they're gonna turn my way And the girls in their summer clothes In the cool of the evening light The girls in their summer clothes Pass me by Frankie's Diner's Over on the edge of town Neon sign spinnin' round Like a cross over the lost and found Fluorescent lights Flicker above Bob's Grill Shaniqua brings a coffee and asks "fill?" And says "penny for your thoughts now my poor Bill" She went away She cut me like a knife Had a beautiful thing Maybe you just saved my life In just a glance Down here on Magic Street Love's a fool's dance I ain't got much sense but I still got my feet And the girls in their summer clothes In the cool of the evening light The girls in their summer clothes Pass me by And the girls in their summer clothes In the cool of the evening light The girls in their summer clothes Pass me by La la la la, la la la la la la la 1) Radio Nowhere - ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtrOYsNCPmg 2) You'll Be Comin' Down - ** 3) Livin' In The Future - ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Wlgm7Fehaw 4) Your Own Worst Enemy - *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VBPKsXp-ao 5) Gypsy Biker - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf2DNRcqWjw 6) Girls In Their Summer Clothes - *** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8PB1a1c9zA 7) I'll Work For Your Love - ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAdJn5vechQ 8) Magic - * live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgzYSwLqQcc 9) Last To Die - *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFSFD2wXJ2E 10) Long Walk Home - ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iywFZqtPlhU 11) Devil's Arcade - * live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMN3RYMeHnE 12) Terry's Song - ** 3's - 2 2's - 8 1's - 2 Grade - 2.0 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-04-2011 this is one of only a handful of Boss albums i dont own, gonna have to put this on my 're-check out' list, i only know three off this one, "radio nowhere" which got a lot of airplay here at the time, and the two you gave "*" to. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-04-2011 ![]() PAUL & LINDA McCARTNEY "ram" 1971, vinyl/cd. #1 UK, #2 US, #3 AU. the majority of Macca's albums always seem to be dismissed as drivel by the music press, this cannot be further from the truth, apart from maybe three or four the rest are fine pieces of work....this one is no exception to that. i actually thought this one, his second solo release, might have scored higher than it does, neverthe less it is in the "like" range. it is basically a raw, earthy, lightly produced album overall and sees PM still finding his solo feet. the tracks "eat at home", "backseat of my car", "smile away" and " too many people" show the beginnings of the style that would later become Wings sound. theres still hints of his Beatle's past in tracks like "dear boy", "heart of the country" and "monkberry moon delight"...all three of these would have worked well on "the white album", then there is the classic Macca composition "uncle albert/admiral halsey", a great character song that PM does so well, this song was never released in the UK as a single for some strange reason, yet scored Macca his first US #1 hit, where he would have five more before he hit the top spot in his homeland. worst track: 3 legs best track: uncle albert/admiral halsey tracks: 1. too many people** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFddsWq2pDw live 2. 3 legs* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmGblSMH8Ug audio 3. ram on* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H9GemsHRP0 live (not great quality but its a rare live performance of the song) 4. dear boy** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6lq2xWead8 audio 5. uncle albert/admiral halsey*** #1 US, #5 AU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsWufNDJl4M audio 6. smile away** #21 AU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN9-0GFcn8Q audio 7. heart of the country** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DqMl0shEtw video 8. monkberry moon delight** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUI4Ty5CGMQ audio 9. eat at home** #21 AU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2DoB-g7AO0 audio 10.long haired lady** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3fbhkbYWg4 audio 11.ram on(reprise)** 12.the backseat of my car** #39 UK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT3ez3mkXFk audio 3s=1 2s=9 1s=2 rating: 2.0 What Are You Listening To? - gryphon - 24-04-2011 Ram is an interesting album, which shows Macca in a bit of a trough...........It is interesting to note that among the Let It Be tapes there are Beatle versions of Back Seat Of My Car........I guess this would have been an interesting choice for a Beatle track but as Paul could not really interest the other three in the track................. The cover of Ram contains some interesting Beatle references too on the back there are two Beatles....................Paul's comments on this were crude at the time but perhaps reflect his thinking.........." Two Beatles screwing each other " :biggrin1: Some f the other pictures have significant meaning too............There was John and Yoko ..............This album states Paul and Linda! The lack of a release of Uncle Albert / Admeral Halsey..................Macca was having real problems in the UK with singles around 1971/2 Back Seat of My Car stalled at around 32 in the UK charts....................Hi Hi Hi/C Moon was band ( References to Body gun which was actually polygon!).................Give Ireland Back to the Irish ( Outright ban and political problems to boot).................... So singles were a real mine field and Ringo and George were outselling him ............Paul The Beatle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Further strange facts...................There are at least two possible unreleased singles of this time..................."Love Is Strange" was pressed as far as Demo copies and maybe stock copies I I have seen pictures of these eventually after 30 years of rumours ..........JTRIFF!!!) but rejected...................Paul toyed with Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey as a UK single........there are Demos or acetates of this and as A Thrillington release. To be honest he was really frightened that the favourite Beatle to do well after the split was failing...............so he was really unsure what to do.( IN the end it was relentless touring that helped him out of the trough!) In the end he took a nursery rhyme which he was sure could offend no one and jazzed it up , scored in the UK charts and started a long running battle with the music press for being twee! ![]()
