The Track I'm Listening To Is....................... - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-08-2015

while posting the Kacey album I came across this brilliant live version of my favourite track from the Jools Holland show...

Kacey looks a lot like the 'other Casey' IMO....

I listened again CH - just to make sure. Had listened the previous time when you’d just discovered him. Sorry to say, he leaves me cold, and I would really like that not to be the case! There's nothing wrong with his voice, his lyrics or his sentiment, but I can’t feel it; and it’s no feel, no deal. Bummer. Fortunately, I’m in the minority, and a whole lot of people feel otherwise. Good thing we’re all different!

not a problem Ruby, like you said, "were all different"....
Nick Drake leaves me 'cold' as you put it...I cant stand most of what he does, I have both of his studio albums and probably like three or four tracks combined....

Strictly for those of an experimental and open-minded and/or philosophical bent - don't bother otherwise! I was reminded of this the other day – can’t remember why! Finally listened to it again – the track is nearly 26 minutes long, so having uninterrupted time is essential (and it’s not necessary to turn up the volume at the beginning – it gets louder as you go along - it's a quiet listen).

Gavin Bryars, at some stage of his career, during filming for a documentary, recorded a homeless man singing a simple stanza which GB then put on a repeat loop and which he gradually built up with additions until there was an entire orchestra (well – just about!) added to it. The gentleman in question, who was indigent, but unlike those around him, not a drunk, unfortunately died before he could get to hear what had been done with his simple, yet eloquent voice (much more comprehensive story by the uploader, btw). It’s so interesting that what Bryars created helps that man attain a different status – a dignity which was there all along simply by virtue of his being human, and yet which would have been unacknowledged by casual onlookers due to his circumstances. It all induces such emotion (and the religious aspect is not the focal point of this at all, although faith might be). Food for thought!

There are a few versions – Bryars’ originals of varying lengths, and one that Tom Waits did, his voice overlaying what had gone before – quite beautiful in its own way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT0wonCq_MY

The track appeared originally on Gavin Bryars’ 1975 release, The Sinking of the Titanic, which is a tale all on its own https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sinking_of_the_Titanic. It also happens to be ‘Obscure No 1’, the very first release under Brian Eno’s label, Obscure Records, which he had set up, in part because he was fascinated by Bryars’ work and wanted to create a label that could accommodate these experimental/avant garde recordings.
