himself, he did not mean for the song to condone the use of heroin.

Never cared for those lame dance craze songs. This had to be one of the first. Began as a b-side to
Teardrops On Your Letter for Hank Ballard & The Midnighters in 1958. Revived at Dick Clarks suggestion
with Chubby Checker taking it to #1. Chubby tapped it for all it was worth, with several versions of the
original to follow along with the follow up Let's Twist Again. I'm sure he recorded other things, but I
would guess The Twist phenomenon is all anyone knows of. Chubby is still out there, probably still
twisting.

Hell yes it was cheezy (they brought a real motorcycle in the studio), that's why it was good. I was a big
fan of the string of 60's girl bands. The Shangri La's were one of the many defining groups of that sound.
All they are remembered for is this song, but it's a good memory. Signed to a record deal when they were
still minors performing at high school functions. This was their second hit, after Remember (Walking In
The Sand). Toured with the Drifters, and James Brown, and many thought the girls were black. Unbelievable
that the song was banned by the BBC, for it's death theme, and some speculated that it would spark
violence between mods and rockers. Sounds crazy to me but that's what wiki says.
