I love all music! Some rap artists like Mos Def, Common and Nas release "underground" material that has sophisticated arrangements and interesting sounds! The Top 40 rap is annoying to say the least! I love death metal also Blanche! I don't stay on one genre for very long, I guess I get bored easier and quicker from listening to music for quite awhile!

So I have the passed on response of a friend that's not on this forum but wanted to respond to you through me. He's educated on the genre, and even though we've agreed that you might just be a "troll" he still wants to give you an informative response. So here it is!
Rap is definitely music. To say that rap is just someone yapping on the track just shows how ignorant that person is about the musical aspects of rap.
Also doesnt help that the OP used Eminem...current Eminem...the annoying past his prime Eminem as his example. (#1 red flag that indicates the indivodual doesnt belong in a serious Hip Hop discussion)

Anyways with regards to the musical aspects of rap, it revolves around rhythm pretty much. The rapper are not just "talking" has to be able to deliver their rhymes at a suitable rhythm to the beat, otherwise they will sound horrible. Singers harmonize and utilise vocal range, rappers instead use focus on rhythmically reciting their lyrics (or what we call "flow") and delivery and presence on the mic.
How is that not music? Is rhythm not a part of music? Who says that real musicians only sing?

And for the record rappers do their own form of harmonizing that suits the Hip Hop context.

Ralgrim--we've already covered that ...and dismissed it. Rap is spoken word with musical accompaniment; hip-hop is a legit form of music that has been incorporated into jazz--Skrillex and Stanton Moore III specifically. To conflate rap and Hip-hop is ludicrous and displays the true ignorance or ultra-sly thinking--are you in Public Relations or some other kind of paid lying?. Get with the program and please don't call out other contributors--that's a hallmark of MB thinking and actions, and we don't play that sh!t here.
A typical rap lyric: Antlers in the treetop/Who goosed the moose? Can you quote rap lyrics that enhance the human experience? Most all I've heard encourage some kind of violence--just what we don't need more of in this world...unless you wish to post the ISIS/ISIL greatest hits collection.

rap does not encourage violence jazzbo....people with a certain mindset will latch onto anything at anytime and use it as a reason to do something stupid....
rappers generally rap about what they know,what theyve seen etc etc....just like most other musicians do, and before you start having a go at me over this commetn i'd like you to know that i do not like much rap/hip hop and done like half the lyrics i hear...i do not commit crimes,shoot people,rape women and treat my woman like crap nor do i treat her like an object/possession.
Guns n Roses,Metallica,Marilyn Manson,KISS, AC/DC,Beatles(in the Bible=belt),Elvis Presley,Jerry Lee Lewis etc all influenced violent and agressive behaviour...apparently!
and "catcher in the rye" was the catalyst for Chapman killing John Lennon...ive read the book twice, i never wanted to kill anyone, and i listen to all the artists ive mentioned above...never wanted to get psychotic or become a serial killer from it though

I'm not a troll. Yeah I reply quickly, but I'm not wasting words. I have my own set of fixed views that runs through my head all day. Music-discussion is much more friendlier compared to Music Banter. When I first showed up here I was warmly welcomed by the Administrator and the Moderator. When I go to Music Banter, it's like being 5 minutes in Hell, because of the hostile environment (Reminds me of my early days in High School and Middle School), but it's fun to stoop to the level of knuckleheads. I am surprised you called me a troll, there are a lot of serious trolls in Music Banter. You're wasting your troll bomb on the wrong person.

You call those tracks great music? I can easily evaluate what's a good quality song and discard a song that is poor quality and trash...I discarded them (the tracks) all.
