Emo - Rain - 01-10-2009 Nah I think there is pop-emo and emo-screamo which is awesome. I like bands like Silverstein ,Hawthorne Heights but with Casey (R.I.P):frown: they used to be great.... and others too like Something Corporate but yea, I like emo music. Emo - jwee5467 - 05-10-2009 clearly. but what exactly do you like about it? Emo - Rain - 07-10-2009 Well, what defines emo music is lyrics so I like the lyrics because the music is rock-wise with each band having its own characteristics of course. So I can say that my favorite type of lyrics are emo but the good stuff. Emo - CMB1888 - 07-10-2009 I always though the music, rather than the lyrics defined emo. I would have thought the lyrics were much more universal than the style of music - I don't really understand what you mean, I think. No one would call them emo without the crude lyrics and similar actions on-stage as well as their type of fashion without the lyrical writing. Although we look at them now as a bad genre, so did people in the 80s with the emergence of goth rock, but goth rock had a huge fan base with its emotional lyrics. Emo reminds me slightly of this era, but with more violence and angst. Still, they are willing to do something new and different and portray their emotions to the public. I think that music differs from emo band to emo band but the lyrics have the same root so it's definitely the lyrics that define emo music. For example, take Something Corporate and Hawthorne Heights do they have the same music?Nope but they are both emo.Or take Silverstein and Saves The Day...the same thing. I usually think of emo as punk with some slow paced bits so the music is fairly easy to identify as far as I am concerned. - I don't know these bands much at all but if you mean the lyrics are full of angst, I would have thought that that sort of lyric was more universal than the music but maybe it's the fact that they're not usually about relationships? I dunno, I'm still not sure what you mean (granted that's probably because I don't really know these bands) Emo - JonG - 09-10-2009 CMB1888 Wrote:I dunno, I'm still not sure what you mean (granted that's probably because I don't really know these bands) My advice: don't bother trying to understand. This discussion goes no where. The definition of emo has changed a lot over the years since Jimmy Eat World and others made it popular with the Warped Tour crowd. I realise that it's unlikely I'll find the answer to life, the universe and everything as a result of these ponderings but ...... perhaps......... perhaps......... perhaps... Yeah, they're all a buch of whiny artards trying to reach some people through their music because otherwise nobody would be interested in them and wouldn't keep them from killing themselves. |
