Sometimes the truth is indeed stranger than fiction. I see Merkel's in deep 'doo dah' as well. Our President likely has a red nuke button he could push whenever necessary and powerful enough to blow countries like Iraq and Iran off the map. However, I think what has driven some of our last few President's to hunt WMDs in other countries is the possibility of powerful ones falling into the hands of terrorists. The invention of nukes has changed the game of warfare to even greater heights than ever before, IMO. Sigh. I think one of the reasons 9/11 was as jarring as it was is the fact that most of us Americans think we are safe from attacks and foreign threats, but 9/11 reminds us then and now that we can be still be hurt. To be honest, we are probably more likely to be killed by homegrown terrorists who can make weapons at home regardless of their ethnicity, religion, etc than we are by outside threats right now. In Remembrance - Jerome - 13-09-2016 I think the advent of urban terrorism has ensured that no-one is safe from anything anymore. Conventional warfare is not completely gone but it can easily be circumvented by urban terrorism. For many Americans the real threat lies in your schools & universities. The whole gun thing has been discussed to death here and I don't want to revisit that but you seem to need some kind of screening program for pupils. I don't understand what this obsession is with mass shootings in the USA. Why are all these kids so screwed up? In Remembrance - Jerome - 13-09-2016 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:Yeh, strange isn't it... I don't understand what this obsession is with mass shootings in the USA. Why are all these kids so screwed up? Right, we have these 20 year old guys (mostly white) walking into schools and other public places and opening fire on them. I don't understand why either, tbh. Most of the ones who do probably have buried issues already. The fact that they usually choose public places implies they want to be noticed by the media. Some kill themselves afterwards cause they're cowards. I think that's why we're more likely to be killed in our schools, colleges, etc. by people who are dangerous and could possibly be triggered than by terrorists elsewhere. Something is wrong here though. Why does ISIS need to come here when all they have to do to is connect to young people who can be radicalized here anyway? My brother was like 30 or so miles away from the Florida club shooting and even spoke to a couple that walked into his store who were there when the incident happened, so close my loved ones could be hurt by someone. Also it'd be a miracle if a compromise is ever reached on gun screenings, haha. Pigs will start flying and such. In Remembrance - Jerome - 13-09-2016 At what age are you allowed to buy firearms in the states? In Remembrance - Jerome - 13-09-2016 Cancel that last question - it's just going to lead into another debate about gun crimes etc. and this thread should really be about remembering those that gave up their lives in the 9/11 massacre. I always digress when these subjects come up. Apologies. Back to the thread....... In Remembrance - Music Head - 13-09-2016 damn don't even know where to start so I won't for now In Remembrance - Oceansoul - 13-09-2016 Jerome Wrote:Cancel that last question - it's just going to lead into another debate about gun crimes etc. and this thread should really be about remembering those that gave up their lives in the 9/11 massacre. I didn't mean to hijack the thread, btw just wanted to respond to Crazy Horse's post since I don't agree with it. Anyway, back to remembering 9/11. In Remembrance - Lovely Linda - 14-09-2016 All of the people who were there on the street, firemen, and news media called the fall of the towers as a result of bombs going off. Our goverment brought those towers down. In Remembrance - Lovely Linda - 14-09-2016 Kind of reminded me of the day Kennedy died. We knew what happened. |
