Your Favourite Doors Album? Breakdown - Music Head - 28-11-2016
I thought Dylan held that longest single at the time honor with Like A Rolling Stone
Your Favourite Doors Album? Breakdown - bob_32_116 - 28-11-2016
Some stats on song lengths:
The Doors - Light My Fire (1967) 7:06 (album version)
2:52 (single version)
Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone (1965) 6:13
Richard Harris - MacArthur Park (1968) 7:21
Barry Ryan - Eloise (1968) 5:07
The Beatles - Hey Jude (1968) 7:11
Don McLean - American Pie (1971) 8:33
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love (1969) 5:33
Them were the days. Not that being long automatically makes a song great, but it was nice for a while that rock musicians were able to free themselves from the restrictions of the 3-minute format. Whatever happened to that freedom? It seems a long time since a song anywhere near that length made the higher regions of the charts.
