Question - MetalMama - 23-04-2008 I'd say "no". It's just logic. If A exists, it doesn't mean that B exists too. But I'm also an atheist, so... Question - metalmaiden - 01-05-2008 very interesting, these type of questions are good for music forums instead of the usual preference-based questions. for me, music can only prove that human beings are amazing creatures. now whether or not it proves that god exists is an entirely different thing. if you believe in god and that he created us then the answer would be yes. so it all boils down to what you believe in. personally, i would like to think that music does prove god's existence... just because it sounds so damn poetic and powerful. hahaha. any philosophy majors out there who would like to contribute something logical? Question - Kurt Staley - 01-05-2008 The more maijuana I inhale the closer I am to figuring out the truth. I'll keep you guys posted. Question - Syn - 02-05-2008 There is an old saying stating that "music is food for the soul" or something like that. Could this be used in conjuction with that statment that music does proove god exists? Does it mean that your "soul" is a peice of god itself? and music is a way of praising it. i like this thread and it would be great to get as many opinions/views on the statments made. mug:
Question - phil - 02-05-2008 syn, i really like that statement! i know you phrased it in the form of a question, but i would agree with that. Question - Tiggi - 02-05-2008 Well... What is a soul ?? and how do we know we even have one ? The term is something we're all familiar with, but can anyone usefully define it in anything other than vague terms. As far as I'm aware the soul is a religious construct, but do scientists support the existence of the soul ? I think music stimulates something in our minds in much the same way as we can get pleasure from visual stimuli such as beautiful scenery or great art. I may be wrong, but it seems our emotional response to sensory stimulus is just a part of our complex make-up. Question - Syn - 02-05-2008 Science, I doubt, would ever support the idea of something that they cant provide hard evidence for. This does not mean it does not exist, In the past science has been very wrong. Just because You can't see a summer breeze on the back of your hand dose notbut you know its there from what you feel, the effect on the trees and smoke/leaves/etc around you. We all may have a soul to call our own, it may define what we like/dont like, (which in its self, I think, is influenced by what happens to us as we experiance life) Have we had them so long that we have just got used to them? I dont know, to be honest in the end the soul question end up like: Well you proove it exists; Well you proove it dosn't I like to type stuff, especially stuff like this dont get many outlets for my thoughts and veiws. mug:

Classic!!!:lol::lol: I'll be here waiting for the answer. Question - gumkeegan - 03-05-2008 ...you're all getting caught up in word games. the combination of letters g, o,d, comes in many forms and means even more different things than you could shake a stick at. also soul is a word that I believe is meant to be a tool in the fooling and trapping of minds. but as for the original question, I think one who has a good perspective on the world of published and performed music knows that music is often inspired by an "other being" which is, I think, perhaps a fine definition for god, just as general I would say. lastly, in order to understand lyrical music you must understand and appreciate the lyrics. which of course brings language into the picture... which, [fill in your own dogma here, if you please] -KTM Question - metalmaiden - 04-05-2008 WHICH means that if you listen to hardcore death metal and the sort, it cannot be associated with god. haha. language doesn't come into the picture for me when talking about music as a spiritual experience. it's just the melody or the instruments (or the music itself) that gives me that effect. for me, if the lyrics are good, then thats just icing on the cake. |
