I will have to give you my favorites of a few genres.
Even this great feat was incredibly difficult.
Classic Rock - Pink Floyd
Jazz - Miles Davis
Blues - T-Bone Walker
Classical - Sorry, have to take three. Mozart, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.
Motown - Tie between The Temptations and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.
"Oldies" - The Beatles
Folk - Bob Dylan
Country - Johnny Cash
Ambient/Soundscapes - Liquid Mind

I know they are not musical genius' but I have a place in my heart for the Ramones. I simply love them, ever since I saw them play in a small dirty little club

Yeah for the vote for Belle and Sebastian...sometimes I feel really intimidated on this forum because everyone knows so much more about music than me. When I first read this thread, my feelings were like for sure, The Beatles, but truth is, I haven't listened to a Beatles track for several years.
So thanks to mtthwibrahim for inspiring me to be honest. Here goes...my fave band is 10,000 Maniacs and then Natalie Merchant when she went solo.
That woman has a voice like...well...one word or a simile doesn't come to mind, but imagine if in the future, there was a singing contest, like American Idol but bigger...
And imagine if Heaven sent their top angel, the choir leader of the Heavenly Host if you will to participate (I know this scenario is getting surreal, but please bear with me)
And all the humans would be like, that's so unfair! Because angelic voices are supernatural right?
And the angel starts beating everyone left, right, and center, making them look bad and just when it looked like the angel was about to win... from the back of the stage, there'd be the faintness of a melody and voice is heard. And then a look of concern grows over the angels voice, because he/she knows that Natalie can sing like an angel, but the angel cannt not sing like Natalie.
Naturally, as an angel it doesn't know what it's like to be human, and Natalie's voice articulates all the nuances of musical compassion for suffering and respect for human dignity as evidenced by her music all these years.
So in the end Natalie wins the contest and the Heaven Host are sent back to the sky defeated.
(Yeah ok I know I went over the top on that one. Sorry. Um yeah, my fave is Natalie Merchant.)

it's apparent that you too, have that passion
no one knows everything about music as it is ever changing
absorbing it all is a lifetime goal never achieved
just trying is half the fun
