my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-09-2013

THE STYLE COUNCIL "money-go-round pt.I" b/w "money-go-round pt.II" 1983

big brass funk, heavy bass sounds here, with psuedo rapping verses from Weller on this one...
lots of politically charged lyrics aimed at Thatcher/Reagan/Catholic Church sort of stuff...
much prefer this song as a complete work rather than having it split up in two parts...
single failed to chart here

SIMPLE MINDS "i travel" b/w "celebrate" 1980

one of their early singles prior to them finding chart success...
pretty sure i found this at a second-hand vinyl shop back in the day...i dont like it, in-fact, i was never a fan of these guys at all!
single never charted here, pretty sure from memory that it either never charted in the UK or it just scraped in the top100 there...

DONNA SUMMER "i feel love" b/w "cant we just sit down" 1977

i only got this one as for a while i started trying to collect UK #1 singles...
i dont like it at all,"b" side is a nice piano based balled though...much prefer Summer doing this than disco!
single got to #1 here also...

DURAN DURAN "hungry like the wolf" b/w "careless memories(live)" 1982

not a big fan of LeBon and company, but i did like their singles...
"a" side still sounds okay to me..."b" side is a live version of one of their early hits which isnt too bad, actually shows these guys werent bad performers outside of a studio setting....
single reached #5 here, the original single 'careless memories' only got to #60 though...

THE ENEMY WITHIN "strike!" b/w "strike!(general mix)" 1984

music is sort of that sample scratch/hip hop/breakdance stuff from back then, vocals are samples of Arthur Scargill who was leader of the National Mineworkers Union in the UK at the time...single was put together to raise money for striking miners who were going to lose their jobs over Thatcher's idealology of shutting down british industry systematically...she shut down the steel industry then went to shut down the coal industry, miners ended up on strike for over twelve months, but ended up losing their fight for their jobs throughout the UK....
the Thatcher Government had this single banned from airplay and sales the day it was released out there, i managed to get a copy on import and this is it...
obviouslt, it failed to chart here because it wasnt released here...

THE BEATLES "twist and shout-ep" 1963

four track ep from the Fab Four...
tracks on it are: twist and shout, do you want to know a secret, a taste of honey, there's a place...
superb ep IMO, love all four tracks on offer, ep also contains tow of my favourite Beatle tracks in "twist and shout" and "do you want to know a secret"...
sublime stuff..was actually surprised to find the ep only reached a peak of #5 here, should have been a #1 hit...
not putting up links for this one as we all know and love the songs from this period of their career!!!!

The Rattle and Hum album is great! BB King and all! Two good songs featured here!

CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:U2 "desire" b/w "hallelujah,here she comes" 1988

"a" side comes from what i consider their best album..."rattle and hum"..
love the track and love the acoustic gospel tinged "b' side also...
genuinely great material from a band whom i own probably eight or nine albums of, yet dont like any of them except this one....!
single got to #1 here

First time hearing this! Never heard of DOUBLE ! I like the song and I enjoyed the video! thanks CH!

CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:DOUBLE "gliding" b/w "lakes in the desert" 1987

who the...!
couldnt recall this one whatsoever when i played it,let alone who the artist is???
thanks to wiki who tell me the name is pronounced do-bley and they were from Belgium...apparnetly had a couplt of albums back in the day...
this is boring euro crap...no melody, tune, intelligence etc etc...God only knows why i even bought this, guess it got a lot of airplay and it hooked me somehow, but it didnt chart if it did get the airplay, which would be unusual for back then...dislike the "b" side even more than the "a" side!...is it possible to give zero *'s for a track?

FISCHER Z "perfect day" b/w "marguerite" 1987

this was the only song by this UK late 70s/80srock band to chart here...
has a bit of an XTC feel to it...
i havent heard this song since the late 1980s since i put it away in a box...i love it, one of those great melodic songs that just doesnt get played on the radio for some reason..."b" side is also very good, slightly slower than the "a" side and very likeable iMO
single got to #14 here....
