Died on this day ... - Ruby - 29-06-2015 Tim Buckley died on this day in 1975. He was only 28 - hard to believe, listening to that voice. He had such a mature sound â a huge amount of power held in check. Pity he never got to extend and develop his immense talent. He played 12 string acoustic and electric guitars as well as the regular six string, vibraphone and kalimba. Moving from folk oriented to funk with some seriously experimental and avant-garde moments thrown in for good measure; he was no pedestrian artist. They had no idea how to market him â he kept on changing tack. He was a phenomenon who had an expansive and extensive career. His repertoire can be found with ease for those who care to look. Love these two together ⦠they shared a real and rare rapport â Died on this day ... - jazzboCR - 30-06-2015 Indeed Mr. Atkins had an expansive career and not just as a musician or even that side of the music biz (producer)--he was VP of RCA Victors Nashville division. Some criticized him for taking the "hard" out of Country and producing a blander, more Pop sound, coming up with the "Nashville Sound". Maybe true but where's the relevance? Instructive to scan his Wiki and see all the artists he signed or worked with.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chet_Atkins Love Ruby's choice of tune--they worked so well together on that album. Here's another as soloist and, no, it's not a novelty tune--Brad Paisley among others have done it--what the uploader said...: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvmfsivdavQ Died on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-07-2015 1981, Rushton Moreve bassist with Steppenwolf, was killed in motorcycle accident in Santa Barbara, California, aged 32. He co-wrote their hit 'Magic Carpet Ride' with lead singer John Kay; Steppenwolf also had the 1968 US No.2 single 'Born To Be Wild'. Moreve left the band in late 1968 when he refused to fly back to California at that time, fearing it would sink into the Pacific Ocean after an imminent earthquake. His body was found at the bottom of the pool by his Swedish girlfriend Anna Wohlin. The coroner's report stated "Death by misadventure", and noted his liver and heart were heavily enlarged by drug and alcohol abuse. Jones was one of the founding members of The Rolling Stones and in the early 60âs used the name "Elmo Lewis." im not a big fan of these guys but heres one of my faves from the Brian Jone years.... He was 46 â collapsed on stage in Italy having had a massive heart attack. His band, Morphine, had a distinctive âlow rockâ sound that was referred to as "slow and murky". Sandmanâs instrument of choice was a two string bass, they had baritone, tenor and soprano, as well as the occasional bass sax, and drums/percussion. Other instruments were used to augment recordings, but the aforementioned were the basics. As well as being a singer, songwriter and musician, he was also an inventor of instruments. From wiki â âHis instruments were extensively altered and sometimes built by hand. In Morphine, he usually played a two-string slide bass guitar tuned to a fifth, and sometimes a unitar (named after the one-stringed instrument in American blues tradition), and three-string slide bass with one bass and two unison strings tuned an octave higher (usually to A). He sometimes paired bass strings with one or two guitar strings, creating the "basitar" "tri-tar" and "guitbass." Mark Sandman was the driving creative force behind this unusual trio and while their music is not so much to my personal taste these days, there's no denying that what they achieved was an interesting and unique sound ⦠ Died on this day ... - Music Head - 04-07-2015 Jimmie Spheeris - Alabama native died on this day in 1984 at the age of 34, in a motorcycle accident not sure if I've mentioned this guy before I have his first 3 albums on vinyl all are excellent wondering if Jerome knows of him I think of Shawn Phillips when I hear Jimmie from his debut album Died on this day ... - Jerome - 04-07-2015 Music Head Wrote:Jimmie Spheeris - Alabama native died on this day in 1984 at the age of 34, in a motorcycle accident I have never heard of him MH.
