THE MIXTURES "the pushbike song" b/w "who loves ya(instrumental)" 1970
"A' side is one of those semi-comical tracks like Melanie's "brand new key" song from the same period...
i love this track by these Aussie folkies...and two discs in a row now have instrumentals on the "B' side, i like this one also..
single was thebiggest selling one out here for the year of 1970 so its no surprise it got to #1 on the charts, not sure if it charted in the US but it also got to #1 in the UK...

Jona had been trying to make it big since around 1967, had a UK hit under the name Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs in the early 1970s then dissapeared from the charts till this one came out...
very early 80s UK New Wave stuff here...like the "a" side, hate the "b" side...
single only got to #21 here,

and its so cool that my 8000th post on the forum happens to be(by coincidence) that of one of my favourite artists...
PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS "maybe im amazed(live)" b/w "soily(live)" 1976
a live single taken from the brilliant "wings over america" triple live album from the same year...
"maybe im amazed" has got to be one of the greatest ballads in the history of rock and roll, and IMO, better than any balled Macca wrote and performed up to that point in his career, the studio version was released onhis debut self titled solo set..."soily", the "b" side", not keen on that track as a song at all, it was originally released on the "speed of sound" album which i do not like!

despite being ver disco-ish, i still love this track!
the "b" side was the instrumental version, which was a bummer, but whatever.

Love this song and love that you used to collect singles the way that I did when I was a kid. My parents gave me $2 a week and that was the cost of a single. I got one every week. Sadly When I was 11 and cassettes were the thing and I didn't know any better.......I gave my collection to a friend.....

MIDGE URE "if i was" b/w "piano" 1985
better known for his work with Ultravox, less known for being the 'silent partner' in the whole Band Aid thing with Sir Bob Geldof...
i like this solo single, runs along the same formula as ultravox, "b" side is an instrumental and one that i actually like!...
was actually very surprised to find that this not only charted here but made it to #10 on the charts also!

"a" side...sounds nothing like Georgie Boy, i like it!
"b" side...very late Culture Clud sound, but i dont like it!

JACKSONS & MICK JAGGER "state of shock" b/w "your ways" 1984
a duet between Michael and Mick...i like it, cant decide whether its really a Stones or Jackson track...they worked well together on this one,
shame about the "b" side, another duet, but i dont like that one, single came off a Jacksons album from the same year called "victory"...
apparently Michael also did a version of this with Freddie Mercury which wasnt released, but apparently they recorded a lot of tracks together and
they are going to be released on an album at christmas...
single got to #10 here...

THE JAM "start!" b/w "liza radley" 1980
the first Jam single i ever bought which started my obsession with all things Weller...
"a" side is, IMO, almost a carbon copy plagaristic rip-off of Beatles "taxman"...just cant understand why Weller was never sued over this one when other artists are sued for vagus similarities, go figure?!, look, "a' side is ok, but the real gem is the acoustic track on the "b" side about a girl who is shunned by the people in her town, this track is classic Weller IMO and should have been the "A' side...single was a #1 hit in the UK, but failed to chart here...
