UK songs charts for week ending 7th October 2016:

James Arthur is taking the title of his latest hit Say You Won't Let Go literally this week – he's refusing to budge from the top of the Official Singles Chart.Say You Won't Let Go logs a second week at Number 1, over 27,000 combined chart sales of nearest rival The Weeknd's Starboy feat. Daft Punk who rises one place to 2.


Say You Won't let Go is also the most streamed track of the week, racking up 5.03 million listens over the last seven days.
Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's Side To Side goes up one place to break the Top 5 for the first time.
[h=4]New entries and high climbers[/h]It's a big week for former One Direction star Niall Horan, as he scores his very first solo Top 10 with debut single This Town. The track rockets 91 places to land at Number 9, following its surprise release late last Thursday.

Zara Larsson lands a fifth Top 20 as Ain't My Fault advances seven places to 16, while Craig David & Sigala leap 16 spots to 23 with Ain't Giving Up.
Chainsmokers score another Top 40 with All We Know, featuring Phoebe Ryan, and Hailee Steinfeld, Grey and Zedd jump nine places to 28 with Starving.
Dua Lipa's Blow Your Mind (Mwah) hits a new chart peak, rising seven slots to 31, while Neikid's Sexual breaks the Top 40 for the first time, up seven to 34.

UK albums charts or week ending 7th October 2016:

16 years after his debut album Born To Do It reached Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, Craig David is back at the top spot.Craig's comeback album, Following My Intuition, is the second chart topper of his career, outselling nearest rival Bon Iver by 4,500 copies. Last time Craig hit the Top 10 it was with 2005's The Story Goes which peaked at Number 5.
Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Craig expressed his thanks to all that made it possible:
“The last Number 1 I had was with Born To Do It 16 years ago so to have another and to share it with so many amazing people - it’s surreal. I’m seeing two generations connecting – the people who have been with me since 1999 and the crew who are just discovering me, both connecting on the same music, it’s the most amazing feeling. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I don’t know what’s going on right now!”


Bon Iver score their second Top 5 album and highest chart entry at 2 this week with 22, A Million, while The Shires are flying the flag for British country music by making history at Number 3 today with My Universe, officially the fastest-selling UK country album of all time with nearly 14,500 copies sold this week.
Rounding out this week's Top 5 are Van Morrison with his 36th studio album Keep Me Singing (4) and Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool at 5, which rockets 80 places following the release of the deluxe edition.
[h=4]New entries and high climbers[/h]Slaves score their personal best position at Number 6 with Take Control, just ahead of Pixies at 7 with Head Carrier.
Swedish metal collective Opeth better their Official Albums Chart peak of 14 with their new album Sorceress (11), just ahead of Deacon Blue's Believers (13), their best chart position for 22 years.

Solange's A Seat at the Table marks her first Top 40 appearance at Number 17, and she is followed by Joanne Shaw Taylor, another debutante at Number 19, with Wild. Banks' second studio album The Altar lands at Number 24, while Drive-By Truckers' American Band is new at 29.
Finally, Amy Winehouse's Back to Black rebounds fifteen places to return to the Top 40 at 31, and gothic rockers The Mission enter the Top 40 for the first time since 1992 with new album Another Fall from Grace (38).

Australian charts for week ending 8th October 2016:

SINGLES:

The Chainsmokers’ ‘Closer’ notches up its ninth week at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. It breaks the record for most weeks at #1 in 2016, previously held by Lukas Graham’s ‘7 Years’ (#1 Feb. ’16). The American duo have picked up a new entry on this week’s Chart with ‘All We Know’ (see below).
A jump of five spots for ‘Starboy’ in its second week in the chart gives The Weeknd a third top five single, following on from ‘The Hills’ (#3 Oct. ’15) and ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ (#2 Jul. ’15).
Up two spots from last week, ‘My Way’ becomes Calvin Harris’ twelfth top ten as lead artist on the ARIA Singles Chart.
Following his performance at the NRL Grand Final, Keith Urban has re-entered the chart at #31 with ‘The Fighter’. The track has been nominated for Song Of The Year at this year’s ARIA Awards.
Debuts:
#5: Niall Horan ‘This Town’ – The debut solo single from One Direction member Niall Horan. It’s the first solo release by any member of the quartet since the beginning of One Direction’s hiatus.
#11: The Chainsmokers Feat. Phoebe Ryan ‘All We Know’ – With ‘Closer’ this week breaking the record for most weeks at #1 on the Singles Chart in 2016, The Chainsmokers pick up a new entry with ‘All We Know’. Featuring vocals from American singer-songwriter Phoebe Allen, it’s the American duo’s fifth top 50 appearance.
#37: Jessica Mauboy ‘Wake Me Up’ – Jessica Mauboy picks up her 22nd top 50 entry as lead artist and first for 2016 with ‘Wake Me Up’. It’s a cover of Avicii’s hit from 2013 (#1 Jul. ’13), which featured vocals by Aloe Blacc. Mauboy’s version comes from the soundtrack to TV series The Secret Daughter, in which she stars.
#38: Bliss N Eso Feat. Thief ‘Dopamine’ – Sydney hip hop trio Bliss N Eso return with their first single in two years. ‘Dopamine’ is the first taste of the group’s sixth album, set for release in 2017. They last charted with ‘My Life’ (#26 Feb. ’14), which was their highest peak to date.

ALBUMS:


With their third studio album, Westway (The Glitter & The Slums), Sydney quintet Sticky Fingers pick up the seventeenth Australia #1 album on the ARIA Charts in 2016 (see below).
Following his NRL Grand Final performance, Keith Urban has moved eleven spots to #3 with Ripcord.
On the back of his appearance at the AFL Grand Final, Vance Joy has jumped from #41 to #17 with Dream Your Life Away.
Debuts:
#1: Sticky Fingers ‘Westway (The Glitter & The Slums)’ – With their third album, Westway (The Glitter & The Slums), Sydney band Sticky Fingers pick up their first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The follow-up to Land Of Pleasure (#3 Aug. ’14) was recorded in Thailand with producer Dann Hume (Lisa Mitchell, Matt Corby).
#2: Bon Iver ‘22, A Million’ – American indie-folk band Bon Iver returns from hiatus with their first album in five years, 22, A Million. It’s the group’s third studio album and second in a row to debut at #2, following on from Bon Iver (#2 Jun. ’11).
#7: Opeth ‘Sorceress’ – With their twelfth studio album, Swedish metal mainstays Opeth have picked up a new Albums Chart peak. Coming two years on from Pale Communion (#17 Sept. ’14), Sorceress is Opeth’s fifth album to hit the top 50 and equals Watershed (#7 Jun. ’08) as the band’s highest peak.
#8: Banks ‘The Altar’ – The debut top ten appearance for Californian artist Banks. The Altar is the singer-songwriter’s second studio album, following on from Goddess (#17 Sept. ’14).
#11: Van Morrison ‘Keep Me Singing’ – Just over a year on from Duets: Re-Working The Catalogue (#10 Apr. ’15), veteran singer-songwriter Van Morrison returns with his 36th studio album. It’s Morrison’s first release of originals since Born To Sing: No Plan B (#65 Oct. ’12).
#13: The Sunny Cowgirls ‘Here We Go’ – Victorian sisters Sophie and Celeste Clabburn, aka The Sunny Cowgirls, score their fourth top 50 album with Here We Go. It’s The Sunny Cowgirls’ eighth studio album and overtakes Summer (#33 Jan. ’10) as their highest peak.
#14: Yellowcard ‘Yellowcard’ – Yellowcard’s tenth and final studio album gives the Florida band their sixth top 50 on the Albums Chart. Following a tour in support of the album, the band intend on splitting. Their highest peak was with Lights And Sounds (#6 Feb. ’06).
#20: Regina Spektor ‘Remember Us To Life’ – The first album in four years from American singer-songwriter Regina Spektor. Remember Us To Life is the follow-up to What We Saw From The Cheap Seats (#9 Jun. ’12), Spektor’s best peak on the ARIA Charts.
#21: Solange ‘A Seat At The Table’ – With her first full-length album in eight years, Solange picks up her first top 50 appearance on the ARIA Albums Chart. A Seat At The Table features collaborations with Lil Wayne, Sampha, The-Dream, Q-Tip and Kelly Rowland, among others and is Solange’s first new material since 2012’s True EP.
#23: Pixies ‘Head Carrier’ – The second album of new material from indie legends Pixies to be released since their reformation in 2004. The follow-up to Indie Cindy (#21 May ’14) is the band’s first album to feature bassist Paz Lenchantin as a member.
#25: Planetshakers ‘Overflow’ – The fifth top 50 album for worship group Planetshakers. It’s their second album to chart in 2016, following on from Momentum (Live In Manila) (#20 Apr. ’16).
#29: Craig David ‘Following My Intuition’ – Craig David’s sixth studio album returns the UK R&B star to the top 50 for the first time since Signed Sealed Delivered (#24 May ’10). Following My Intuition includes collaborations with Sigala, Kaytranada and Hardwell.
#32: Melissa Helser & Jonathan David ‘Beautiful Surrender’ – The ARIA Charts debut for American duo Melissa Helser & Jonathan David. Beautiful Surrender is the Christian folk pair’s eighth album.
#44: Amber Lawrence ‘Happy Ever After’ – The third top 50 appearance for Australian country singer-songwriter Amber Lawrence. Happy Ever After comes two years on from Superheroes (#43 Sept. ’14).
#46: Epica ’The Holographic Principle’ – Dutch symphonic metal band Epica make their ARIA Top 50 debut with The Holographic Principle. It’s the group’s seventh studio album since forming in 2002.
#48: Danny Brown ‘Atrocity Exhibition’ – With his fourth studio album, Atrocity Exhibition, American rapper Danny Brown scores his top 50 debut. Brown’s previous album, Old, gave him his first top 100 appearance.

and the artists that do show creativity or some sort of originalaity don't even get a look in on the charts because radio and MTV only play the "weak and insipid" music to paraphrase you mate...

it must be so heartbreaking for those young bands that struggle to get recognition knowing theyre better than the crap in the top40.
