From Al Stewart's 24 Carrots, the album that follows his classic trilogy. It's on a par with them, I'd say (with the exception of one particular song that is regrettable) despite the fact that Alan Parson produced those previous three, and this was Al's first outing in that department.

Too true - we don't have a clue how to live properly. Everything is just about consumerism - spend, spend, spend - and end up with a pile of crap you don't need. I think we should ban money. That'll sort out the men from the boys!

I remember a David Attenborough quote from many moons ago that has always stuck with me, went something like:
"we, the human race are the only species to have ever walked the Earth who changed nature to accommodate ourselves as opposed to living as part of nature,
and in the process, will eventually, cause our own extinction"
- a truer statement about humans has never yet been said IMO
as for consumerism,
you've only got to see the bloody idiots who year in - year out still line up to purchase the next "iPhone" even though their previous model still
works like it did when they got it, and the bloody teens that have to have the latest Nike shoes....
that said (as an example), we're all guilty of consumerism, im sure I don't really need my 3000 cds.
anyway, enough on this subject, wrong thread for all this stuff, over and out.
