J.M.W Turner. (1775-1851)
British artist known for using watercolours as his medium of choice but he did use oils also
J. M. W. Turner - Wikipedia
i love the tones he gets.
as with most works of art, the images do not do his paintings true justice.

^They're quite apocalyptic- too hot for me - scorched retina
. I wondered about the volcano in that last one so looked it up - it's Vesuvius, which I'm sure you know, but another related article caught my eye - quite interesting ... interesting article Ruby, and to think, Turner was the primary artist mentioned as the prime example in it!
Oops, sorry!

Fascinating stuff. I could sit and stare at one of these for hours. Almost like a zen garden in motion.
RE: favourite works of art - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-03-2021
excellent craftsmanship...
and dare i use the word 'artisan' ??
RE: favourite works of art - Ruby - 21-03-2021
^^Exactly like a zen garden in motion. Extraordinarily satisfying!
^What's wrong with the word artisan CH?
Impossible not to admire the skill that goes into making those precision pieces - they are absolutely stunning. Love his logo too - super elegant and such a clever design.

A friend of mine has this wonderful photo (print) and several others by the same photographer. There's something about black and white photography of a certain era, especially, that is just enchanting. So different seeing this hanging on a wall - no comparison really.
Robert Doisneau - Maurice Baquet, Paris, 1957 (Baquet was a musician and actor and the subject of a few photos)
