Who is your favorite singer-songwriter - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-11-2014 Jerome Wrote:Sixto Rodriguez - Cold Fact http://youtu.be/olx2jrEXe5I im surprised theres not much talk of Rodriguez on this forum apart from when either you or I mention him J-Man. "cold fact" has to be one of the greatest album ever IMO. hey, did you ever see that doco about him that was released a couple of years ago.? Rodriguez just performed here a couple of weeks ago, sold some 24,000 tickets at $120 each, unfortunately i didnt hear about his tour until he was 'sold out'... i'd love to see him live. Who is your favorite singer-songwriter - Jerome - 14-11-2014 Rodriguez was not just a famous folk singer in SA - he was a religion. Yes I have seen the movie - and it is accurate - this guy's music was in every middle class home in the country. I used to play his stuff in pubs with Fred & Charlie Crittenden for years. All unpaid of course - we were just having a good time. Everyone related to it. I wish he had released more stuff because I think he is one of the best musical poets we have ever seen. People talk of Dylan, Cohen and all the other greats - he belongs with them. On my last trip to SA I bought 'Coming From Reality' - an answer to the question - where you coming from? Sat on the beach at Bloubergstrand and listened to it for hours on end. Just plain bloody beautiful. Who is your favorite singer-songwriter - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-11-2014 Good stuff Jerome.... Rodriguez has always been cherished by Aussies also though not as much as the SA people... I don't think the second album quite matches the first, bur yes, he is up there with Dylan aa a poet and observationist of his surroundings for sure. Thanks for your reply mate Who is your favorite singer-songwriter - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-11-2014 And no, I haven't seen the doco about him as yet but its on my "to purchase" list Who is your favorite singer-songwriter - jazzboCR - 15-11-2014 The "singer-songwriter" category had transmogrified to "Americana"--most of the rest have been subsumed into the banal, squishy-soft pop category, suitable for Muzak but not serious listeners. That did anything? Let the history be history but let's live in the present, and celebrate that. If I'd known Tim Buckley personally, I'd have given him all the drugs he needed to end his life earlier. It seems to me that that those who like this music are in a Schadenfreude state--and glorious in being happier than this sad-sack singing about how miserable he is.
