Has music become all about concerts? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-02-2012 gater Wrote:The best examples, to this day, of an artist/band making huge coin from touring and merchandising would beThe Gratefull Dead, followed in the far distance by Kiss. i assume you are only refering to those two bands in the US? as KISS are still huge crowd pleasers worldwide, whereas i dont think The Dead are??! Has music become all about concerts? - Music Head - 23-02-2012 never could get into the Dead think they died with Garcia, rightfully so, as I think he was the Dead Has music become all about concerts? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-02-2012 ...and he is dead! LOL Has music become all about concerts? - gater - 23-02-2012 That is true, from what I hear as well. It's kinda how East Euopean kids in the 70's and 80's went all ape about western bands playing behind the iron curtain. Escpecially harder bands. There are lots of bands who have huge followings there still, despite having waned in popularity in the US. I guess it's the old forbidden fruit thing. So I believe, that China could really be good target market for some western bands. Has music become all about concerts? - CherieLuamboYampanyaStar - 24-02-2012 Since music is no longer having value that it once had, of course now concerts are everything. Back then music was more important and someone would get respect because he made excellent songs but now the music is nothing special anymore now we judge more on people's performance than the real songs. Has music become all about concerts? - tuned circuit - 25-02-2012 I didn't mean to imply that artists should not be rewarded for their efforts, I just think that capitalism has a nasty way of limiting art to only what is profitable in some way which detracts from true freedom of expression. But that's a point more appropriate for a political forum. |
