To me an artists signature song is in most cases their most popular song that everyone knows. It may not be their biggest hit but in most cases it is. It's the song that for the most part ends or is used as the finale in their live concerts ! Great thread...I'll add some different ones ! what do you think members ?

Taking this in a different direction:
The '60's were a transitional time in Jazz--hard bop had not swept away the older bebop and "free jazz" was still on the horizon as a major force. This piece exemplifies the era and shows Oliver Nelson the genius he was and to be a genius leading geniuses in a magnificent album. Listen and get swept away....Oliver Nelson "Stolen Moments:

One of the best-known pieces in jazz (look at the # of YouTube hits), this and the entire rest of this album was improvised in the studio--astonishing achievement by master giant players. MD went far, far beyond this in later years but was always justifiably proud of this piece, this session.
