artist 'signature tunes' - TraceNspace - 08-12-2012 I'm with Lloyd! Man in Black artist 'signature tunes' - TraceNspace - 08-12-2012 The Who - Baba O'reilly artist 'signature tunes' - Music Head - 08-12-2012 I think we may have different thoughts on what a "signature tune" is artist 'signature tunes' - SteveO - 08-12-2012 To me an artists signature song is in most cases their most popular song that everyone knows. It may not be their biggest hit but in most cases it is. It's the song that for the most part ends or is used as the finale in their live concerts ! Great thread...I'll add some different ones ! what do you think members ? Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah Lou Reed - Take a Walk on the Wild Side The Rolling Stones - I Can't Get No Satisfaction The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today Tom Jones - Green Green Grass of Home Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven Eagles - Hotel California Clash - London Calling Elton John - Your Song ( this is a tough one) CCR - Proud Mary ( possibly my least favorite but I think it's their signature song nevertheless) Neil Young - Heart of Gold Lynard Skynard - Sweet Home Alabama Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run I have to add The Beatles ....Hey Jude artist 'signature tunes' - jazzboCR - 22-02-2014 I think it's apples and oranges to compare a signature tune by long-term established artists with one-hit wonders (Golden Earring e.g.). That said: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuOxdvVRM8s and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEV58ztuihs << many would choose "Folsom Prison"... artist 'signature tunes' - jazzboCR - 22-02-2014 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:isnt it funny how we all have different tracks we associate with different artists???smarmy moment: Your thesis is to be expected--perhaps you meant different songs by the same artist? artist 'signature tunes' - jazzboCR - 23-02-2014 Taking this in a different direction: The '60's were a transitional time in Jazz--hard bop had not swept away the older bebop and "free jazz" was still on the horizon as a major force. This piece exemplifies the era and shows Oliver Nelson the genius he was and to be a genius leading geniuses in a magnificent album. Listen and get swept away....Oliver Nelson "Stolen Moments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbaGDDbpcQ4 << album cut This brought so many people to appreciate jazz, me among them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxanLcq0PdE << does this tune scale-up or what? Not featuring any of the original players http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gvsOCly2XQ << vocal treatment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzXpS64UFKc << Vocal; radically different rhythm Showing many of the different things a trumpet can do throughout his career (setting the vocabulary) yet he's remembered for some pop fluff--oh well a man's gotta eat. Louis Armstrong "Hello, Dolly" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmfeKUNDDYs << strong case can also be made for "What a Wonderful World" q. v. Miles Davis "Say What" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEC8nqT6Rrk << hard bop/post-bop/modal--call it what you will. One of the best-known pieces in jazz (look at the # of YouTube hits), this and the entire rest of this album was improvised in the studio--astonishing achievement by master giant players. MD went far, far beyond this in later years but was always justifiably proud of this piece, this session. artist 'signature tunes' - SteveO - 24-02-2014 Fabulous !!!
