One hit wonders ! - Lord Larehip - 20-12-2013 Buffalo Springfield had a few hits. So did the Romantics. So did the Romantics. this is my whole problem/disagreement with this thread Lord.... all Buffalo Springfield and Romantics ever had in the UK and here in Australia were the hits linked above, therefore they were one hit wonders here and there(but not everywhere!).... im sure Neil Young only ever had "heart of gold" as a hit in some countries also... Dylan probably only ever "lay lady lay" in some countries also... Clash "rock the casbah", Split Enz "six months in a leaky boat", AC/DC "you shook me all night long", yet all were huge in various countries... Cliff Richard, barely had a sniff on the US charts but racked up over a 100 hits a decade ago in the UK, and just released his 100th album there also... Slim Dusty(aussie country singer),released a 100 albums during his lifetime, had many a hit here, yet only had one in the UK, and none in the US... then theres Paul Weller, almost 100 hits in the UK, yet "my everchanging moods" was his only top40 hit in the USA....?!?! then technically, "ebony and ivory" was a one hit wonder for Macca/Wonder as they never released another duet single together...which is stupid because look at the chart success they achieved over several decades... Elton/Kiki with "dont go breaking my heart"...one hit wonders also.... this is the whole reason i hate that tag "one hit wonder"...its irrelevant IMO. One hit wonders ! - Music Head - 20-12-2013 ^^ well stated in addition to the country issue you can just take the definition of the word hit and morph that into whatever you want it's still fun though One hit wonders ! - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-12-2013 i have just pulled out my UK 'music bible' and they describe a 'one hit wonder' in the UK as "an artist who has had one charted single entry which peaked at #1 and no other chart placed single release" my Aussie 'music bible' states...."an artist who has only had one top20 hit" i dont have a book of US chart hits anymore(its got lost in the house moves ive had over the years), so i cannot qoute what the US definition of a one hit wonder is?! but from the UK/AU definition, the definition is different is different countries....so there is no official definition really, i guess we can all assume it is what we believe it to be...so confusing,so 'grey', so stupid! One hit wonders ! - Lord Larehip - 20-12-2013 A one-hit wonder is a band or artist with one hit. I see no reason to make it any more difficult than that. The ones I posted, I'll go out on a limb here, are bona fide one-hitters. One hit wonders ! - Music Head - 20-12-2013 Lord Larehip Wrote:A one-hit wonder is a band or artist with one hit.
