What Are You Listening To? - Beach - 31-08-2009
Tiggi Wrote:Miles Davis - Porgy & BessFor my money, this is the best recorded version - one I sadly don't have!
Jazz-Orchestral version of Gershwin's operetta, arranged by Gil Evans.
I usually prefer my Jazz bands a little smaller than this, but Miles is Miles...

Gil Evans was one of Miles' most prolific collaborators back then.

Currently listening to a bit of John Mayall.
First up is the 1968 jazz-inflected [URL="http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:k9fixqq5ldae"]Bare Wires

The Derek Trucks Band - Live at Georgia Theatre
![[Image: 512OH7v9coL._SS500_.jpg]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/512OH7v9coL._SS500_.jpg)
Young slide guitarist & his band.
Trucks is the nephew of one of the Allman Brothers Band drummers, and has apparently played with the band himself.
Definitely Blues, but with strong Jazz, Soul, & World Music influences (not all at once, of course, that would be silly !!)
Trucks has a very distinctive style of playing, and this is a good live album.

I believe he still does play with the Allmans, Tigger and his uncle is, as you said earlier, 'Butch' Trucks from the original band!

He's also very talented IMHO.
Blues albums can underwhelm me a bit if there's not something outstanding about it, but this album is a cracker...
...and this one's even better:

"All Your Love" - Otis Rush
Pretty cool. I like how this guy plays in lower octaves to accommodate his voice.

I like it once in a while, but wouldn't count myself as an afficianado...
