'brilliant' is the only word that sums up this one IMO... Bruce at his best IMO,well, along with 'nebraska' and 'wrecking ball' anyway... some great story telling on this double set, one of only a handful of double albums that i can say is fantastic... a complete range of emotions here from joy, hope, sadness etc... a complete range of styles also, from good old fashioned rockers(sherry baby),through great character songs(the river, independence day), ballads, pop(hungry heart) through to great songs with simplistic lyrics(cadillac ranch)...the list just goes on and on... the only problem i have with the album is that it ends!, just wish it would go on and never end. this album is also one of only two that i give a perfect score of 3.0 to(the other is Neil Young's "tonight's the night")...total class from go to woe, rock and roll perfection! from tha album: the river http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg3DleXrT-o "live audio version"...love the spoken bit at the beginning, fits in so well with the song IMO independence day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSpj2IwFULM live cadillac ranch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krWJu5bKTXs live jackson cage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrrjjUmMHYo live What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 28-06-2012 Another good moody blues track was their version of dont let me be misunderstood ( originaly by the animals) Music Head Wrote:from my library (vinyl) What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 28-06-2012 My shangrilaa has gone away fading like the beatles on hey jude Music Head Wrote:hated r&r all nite at the time What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 29-06-2012 from my library (cd) Not as good as the first one, yet still worth having. Only platinum compared to Vol. 1, which went 9 times. Covers material from '75 thru '01. A few I had never heard, one great one, from the movie Teachers. Don't remember seeing that. That song and five other love tracks make this a nice companion to Vol 1. Never mind the two tracks that sucked, Shakedown (Beverly Hills Cop II and Bobs only #1 song) and Tomorrow (2001). A duet with Martina McBride which I had never heard, on Chances Are. I was expecting to hear Johnny Mathis. I've always preferred Seger's ballad type material and the only exception to that here is Rock 'n' Roll Never Forgets, a great anthem for us elderly rockers. Favorite here is Fair Lake with a nice vocal back up by some Eagles. The album made #23 on the chart here, compared to #8 for volume 1, released 10 years earlier. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Shakedown Best Track - Fire Lake Who's gonna ride that chrome three wheeler Who's gonna make that first mistake Who wants to wear those gypsy leathers All the way to Fire Lake Who wants to break the news about Uncle Joe You remember Uncle Joe He was the one afraid to cut the cake Who wants to tell poor Aunt Sarah Joe's run off to Fire Lake Joe's run off to Fire Lake Who wants to brave those bronze beauties Lying in the sun With their long soft hair falling Flying as they run Oh they smile so shy And they flirt so well And they lay you down so fast Till you look straight up and say Oh Lord Am I really here at last Who wants to play those eights and aces Who wants a raise Who needs a stake Who wants to take that long shot gamble And head out to Fire Lake Head out Who wants to go to Fire Lake And head out Who wants to go to Fire Lake Head out Out to Fire Lake Who's gonna do it 1) Understanding *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOlN2KRACdU 2) The Fire Down Below *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJNxlG-0ZDk 3) Her Strut ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qbeIwn5jR8 4) Beautiful Loser ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V36vR8kQbUo 5) Sunspot Baby ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujTTjt5VkZM 6) Katmandu ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeYDAkvL_xE 7) Shame On The Moon *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2n_-kxnDZA - superb by writer Rodney Crowell also 8) Fire Lake *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmf2jiyYKqQ - with Glenn Frey and Don Henley 9) Tryin' To Live My Life Without You ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y530MuXuVrk 10) Shakedown * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9fN-9fU2N4 - too much synth for me 11) Manhattan *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNNTTNVf1x8 12) New Coat Of Paint ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_n-EacO5xY - Tom Waits song 13) Chances Are ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl7LdevJ71c - with Martina McBride from the movie Hope Floats 14) Rock And Roll Never Forgets *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUfu9RK6w44 15) Satisfied ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLJLgprPqw0 16) Tomorrow * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zwL82LSMsA 3's - 6 2's - 8 1's - 2 Grade - 2.3 allmusic - 2.6 What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 30-06-2012 The debut album by Alabama Shakes...Boys & Girls !!!!!....fabulous vocals from Brittany Howard...retro 60s and 70s sound with a modern twist.....fits in well with a hot summer day like today ! |
