ok, random picks on Spotify....
theyre set out in columns of three across,
I just say to myself something like "middle column, fourth one down" etc, and I listen to whatever it is.
other times I go to the UK/AU "new releases" page and say "fifteen down from the top" or whatever number pops into my head.
and on occasion i'll pick an artist I am familiar with, latest example, Rolling Stones, I knew what it would sound like, but I was still curious...
Neil Young's new one comes out next week I believe, if its on Spotify I will listen to it, because well, its NY.

but wait, theres more....
occasionally for a change, say one week out of every six or so,
i'll got to one of the UK charts, lets say country, prog, jazz, etc and i'll say to myself "i'll listen to the latest new entry that is closest to #22 in the charts (or similar)",
another wheel spin.
like I said though,
sometimes I deliberately pick one by an artist I know, Stones, Bruno, Metallica were three of those in recent times.

Clean Bandit score a personal best this week as Rockabye becomes the band's longest-running Number 1 single.The Sean Paul and Anne-Marie featured track today notches up a fifth week at the top of the Official Singles Chart, surpassing the four weeks their former chart-topper Rather Be logged at the summit in 2014.
Combined chart sales of over 70,000 kept Rockabye at Number 1, and also claims the most downloaded (30,000) and most streamed (4.04 million) song of the week.
[h=4]New entries and high climbers[/h]Neikedâs Sexual reaches a new peak of Number 5 today in its 15th week on chart, while Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You vaults 23 places to Number 6, marking the first time the track has appeared in the Top 10 for nine years.
Rag'n'Bone Man's Human is another new Top 10 entry this week, up three places to Number 8 following his win of the BRITs Critics' Choice prize. The track was also the second most downloaded single of the week.
Zara Larsson's I Would Like rockets from Number 54 to Number 21 following her performance on last weekend's X Factor semi-final, while John Legend's Love Me Now hops three places higher to a new peak of Number 30. Charli XCX scores her sixth Top 40 hit with After The Afterparty, up seven to 34.
A further four Christmas songs either climb or re-enter the Top 40 this week. They are: The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl's Fairytale of New York (16); Last Christmas by Wham (19); Shakin' Stevens' Merry Christmas Everyone (28); and I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard (37).
Finally, Michael Buble's It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas enters the Official Singles Chart Top 40 for the very first time, five years after the song was released, landing at Number 39 today.

Congratulations to The Rolling Stones, who claim this weekâs Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with their latest album Blue & Lonesome â their first new studio album to hit the top spot in more than 20 years.The iconic bandâs first studio record in more than a decade shifted a massive 106,000 combined sales to claim the top spot â the second-highest opening sales week for an album this year, behind David Bowieâs Blackstar, which logged 146,000 sales in its first week back in January.
The Rolling Stones commented: âWe are absolutely delighted with the success of Blue & Lonesome in the UK and around the world.â
99% of Blue & Lonesome's sales were either physical purchases or downloads, with 1% attributed to streams. In terms of digital vs. physical sales, physical accounted for 95,000 of it's overall total.
The record, which is also certified gold today by the BPI, is The Rolling Stonesâ 12[SUP]th[/SUP] Official UK Number 1 album. Their last new studio collection to reach the summit was Voodoo Lounge in 1994, though a re-release of their 1972 album Exile On Main St also reached Number 1 in 2010. Meanwhile, Michael Ball & Alfie Boeâs Together settles for second place for a third time since its release last month, with 71,000 sales, and after two weeks at Number 1, Little Mixâs Glory Days slips to Number 3.
[h=4]New entries and high climbers[/h]Michael Bubleâs Christmas album jumps five spots to Number 6, marking its fifth stint in the Top 10 since its 2011 release, Robbie Williamsâ Heavy Entertainment Show climbs five places to re-enter the Top 10 at Number 7, and Emeli Sandeâs Long Live The Angels rebounds four rungs to 10.
Further down, Phil Collinsâ The Singles is back up to Number 15 â a leap of eight places, Childish Gambinoâs third album Awaken, My Love! is new at 34, and John Legendâs fifth LP Darkness And Light opens at 35.
