MADONNA "dress you up" b/w "shoo be doo" 1985

man oh man! i am so over Madonna!
strange how she wants to 'dress you up',yet has no hesitation taking her clothes off????
hate this "a' side, but the "b' side was a pleasant surpruise this time round, a nice little ballad!
single paeaked at #5 here

PAUL McCARTNEY "once upon a long ago" b/w "back on my feet" 1987

a lovely piano ballad from Macca, pretty sure this was a top10 hit in the UK around that christmastime...
"b" side was a Costello/McCartney collaboration, its not bad
single failed to chart here

ELVIS PRESLEY "its only love" b/w "beyond the reef" 1980

"a' side was originally released on an album in 1970-ish and is typical Elvis crossover country from that period, "b' side was previously unreleased, cant locate where or when it was recorded, but it does have a hawaiian sound to it and his vocals do sound mid 1960s-ish, so it could have been an outtake from those stupid movies...
single failed to chart here

BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS "one love/people get ready" b/w "so much trouble in the world" 1982

not a big fan of Reggae, and only own this and one best of cassette of Marley..
i do actually love the "a' side track, "b' side is a pretty stock standard Marley track IMO
single made it to #24 here, i was sure it charted higher but i obviously thought wrong!

HOODOO GURUS "whats my scene" b/w "heart of barkness" 1987

one of the greatest rock bands to ever leave these shores downunder...
"b' side is okay but the "a' side is sublime HG material,as good as anything recorded by anyone at that time in the world of music!
single reached #3 here and deserved every sale it got!
oh yeh almost forgot...love the video also!

THE STYLE COUNCIL "walls come tumblin' down" b/w "the whole point II" & "bloodsports" 1985

"a" side was about as close as Weller got with these guys to being compared to The Jam with Weller spitting venom at the establishment
"b' side both tracks credited to "the council folk club", track one, is a lovely light breezy soul/jazz infused track, the second track,"blood sports" is a rough and ragged acoustic folky song about the inhumanities of the upperclass' annual slaughter of foxes etc in the UK...brilliant track!
single made it to #19 here but achieved top10 status in the UK.

SAM BROWN "this feeling" b/w "soldiers" 1988

follow up single to her brilliant "stop" single...
i would have bought this one on the strength of the the other one without hearing it, because if i'd have heard it im sure i wouldont have got it!
"b' side fares a bit better than than the "a" side but it still falls flat for me!
obviously the record buying public out here waited to hear it before buying it and their opinion was the same as mine...it didnt chart!

CULTURE CLUB "time(clock of the heart)" b/w "white boys cant control it" 1982

follow up single to their international mega hit 'do you really want to hurt me?"...
this one isnt as good as that one, but its still pretty good IMO,
"b" side is more of funky dance track, like thatone also
single made it to #12 here...

DIANA ROSS "why do fools fall in love?" b/w "think im in love" 1981

"a' side is a cover of the old Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers song...i like their version but love Ross' version!
"b" side is a pop ballad, i dont like it, but then again, i only really like a few of her post-Supremes singles/songs anyway
single only reached #15 here, maybe i was thinking of 'chain reaction' when i thought of a big hit from her in the 1980s???

DEAN FRIEDMAN & DENISE MARSA "LUCKY STARS" B/W "THE DELI SONG(CORNED BEEF ON WRY)" 1978

pulled this one out and couldnt remember it???, and wishing i didnt remember it when i put it on the turntable!
simply a crap excuse for a song..."b' side is much worse though, sort of reminds me of a boring lame Woody Allen New York movie!
single did reach #6 here, a surprise to me...
