On the laptop.

Umpteenth album, from 1973.

A classic Soul release that's escaped my attention till now. Marvin's luuurve album, with each of the songs a hymn to horizontal activities. Didn't make a huge impression, and is a borderline Buy Lister. May revisit this one...

RoviMusic 5/5 stars.

What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 27-01-2012

^ You may well be right, Sir.

I'm often underwhelmed when listening to streamed music.

Promise I'll return to this one eventually...

Formed in 1953 in la-la land. Signed in a 2 for 1 deal to Mercury records. The label wanted the other group, the
Penguins, but manager Buck Ram insisted they take the Platters in order to get them. Reluctantly the label
submitted, to find that the Platters were the biggest hit makers of the two. The Penguins never had a hit for the
label. They did have Earth Angel prior to those Mercury days. The Platters churned out the hits in the late 50's.
Their first recording, Only You, in 1955, was a #1 r&b hit and top 10 on the pop. The follow up, The Great
Pretender, performed even better, topping both charts. The group would go on to have four #1 singles and numerous
other chart placements. The five member lineup that had those hits would not last past 1960, when fame got the best
of them, and they began to drift apart. The group still performed with various members up nto the 90's, but never
relived those glory days. Found it interesting that there was a lone female member of that hit making lineup. Never
a lead vocal on any song I know of, and you never are aware of a female voice on the backups. Not a bad song on
this compilation, loving half of the twelve, with Twilight Time beng my favorite. The group was inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - I'm Sorry

Best Track - Twilight Time

Heavenly shades of night are falling, it's twilight time
Out of the mist your voice is calling, 'tis twilight time
When purple-colored curtains mark the end of day
I'll hear you, my dear, at twilight time

Deepening shadows gather splendor as day is done
Fingers of night will soon surrender the setting sun
I count the moments darling till you're here with me
Together at last at twilight time

Here, in the afterglow of day, we keep our rendezvous beneath the blue
And, in the same and sweet old way I fall in love again as I did then

Deep in the dark your kiss will thrill me like days of old
Lighting the spark of love that fills me with dreams untold
Each day I pray for evening just to be with you
Together at last at twilight time

Here, in the afterglow of day, we keep our rendezvous beneath the blue
And, in the same and sweet old way I fall in love again as I did then

Deep in the dark your kiss will thrill me like days of old
Lighting the spark of love that fills me with dreams untold
Each day I pray for evening just to be with you
Together at last at twilight time
Together at last at twilight time

Why is soul r&b and rap all one thread?

What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 04-02-2012

Sad to see that Don Cornelius infamous soul music producer and host of the TV show Soul Train left us this week. His dog passed away awhile ago ....I'm wondering if this sent Mr. Cornelius over the edge ? Neighbours said that he and his dog were inseparable !People love their dogs as much as humans..sometimes moreso !!!!

Sly and Family Stone, Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, Al Green , the Godfather James Brown, and the genius Stevie Wonder,,,soul, soul, soul !!!!...love Bruno Mars !

possibly because Soul was originally also R&B, but R&B has diversified now and and modern singers tend to meld Rap with R&B,therefore it is linked?!

also, all three so called "genres" would probably not get enough posts on their own unless they were under the same banner
