Yesterday was the first Avetts I didn't love and today is the first Dylan I didn't love. This is Bob's tenth release
and I'm a bit out of order as the last one I did was his seventh. Sorry, didnt realize till after the listen. I'll
get back on track. Speaking of track, Bob went off of it on this one. A lot of covers, even of his own songs. Like A
Rolling Stone and She Belongs To Me have been totally butchered. Terrible covers of classic songs Let It Be Me and
Blue Moon. One cover that does work for me is The Boxer, made interesting because Bob duets with himself. You can
choose to focus on Paul Dylan or Art Dylan. There are three love tracks, but a whopping nine that I do not like.
Even Dylan has panned this album, saying it was made to get people off his back and end the "spokesman of a
generation" tags. It still went gold and made #1 in the UK and #4 here, proving that fans will buy anything,
including me. As to why a double album, in Dylans words, "Well, it wouldn't have held up as a single album—then it
really would've been bad, you know. I mean, if you're gonna put a lot of crap on it, you might as well load it up!"
I guess that sums it up. Having spilled out all that negative, amazing that this can still sneak into the like
range.

THE BAND "the band" cd,1969.

ranked #45 on the Rolling Stone top500 list....
i obviously have this one, their best of set and "music from big pink"...big pink is in the pile waiting to come out, not sure why i have three Band albums as i find them very average as vocalists, musicians and for the most part their writing.
and this album is no different to me...
words to sum up this one that come to mind are, boring, bland, lack of imagination, same old same old, no fire in the belly etc etc...
i cannot for the life of me see why it is placed in the top500 albums of alltime,im obviously missing something here???
that said, there are good tracks on here, but nothing that i can say i love and 'the night they drove old dixie down' simply has no feel in the vocals like the yearning pain that Joan Baez instilled in it so well., but hey its an ok version, and thats about all i can say about the rest of them also...average songs sung and performed very average.

AMERICA "america" cd,1972. #1 US, #1 AU, #13 UK

crap!, another album by an artist im not keen on overall!
America's debut set, fares better than i htought it would...
i guess these guys would be classed as classic rock now but back in the day i guess they'd have been called folk-rock/pop.
very much akin with Crosby,Stills and Nash, and probably also Neil Young to an extent...
look, im not a fan, but theres a couple of bloody great songs on here, and Horse With No Name is not one of them IMO, thats an average song IMO, well, what do you expect when it gets airplay over and over again...just get sick of hearing it everyday.
anyway that track reached #1 both here and in the US...Australians were right up on these guys from day one also.
favourite track here is the beautiful 'i need you'...folky-poppy songs dont get much better than this IMO, up there with Tin Man for me as their best tracks!

Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship, that's the evolution. I think most agree we went from great, to
good, to bad. Only three albums released as Starship, but for me they are probably the weakest of the entire output
of the various incarnations. Actually this came out a little better than I expected, with one song making the
difference between a like and a don't like. That song is one of Grace's best vocal performances, on Nothing's Gonna
Stop Us Now, which went to #1 here, and a #12 for the album. Didn't know that song was in the film Mannequin, which
I don't remember ever seeing. Four tracks I don't care for. Interesting legal battle over how the bands name came
about. All had to do with Paul Kantner leaving the band when they were Jefferson Starship. Claimed the name as his,
forcing the band to continue as just Starship, with Grace Slick retaining that word as hers. Ironic that she left
the band after this album. Isn't the music industry fun?
