Another one I couldn't have told you who did it prior to this. Actually better than most LR's
for me. From a movie of the same name starring Jayne Mansfield. Plan was for Fats Domino to do
this. Not sure what happened there. I guess little won over fat. Covered by the Animals, Mick
Ronson, Everly Brothers, Flamin' Groovies and Led Zeppelin. Didn't know all that either.

Haven't come up on a love track in awhile. This one's a no-brainer for me. Simple music,
straight forward lyrics, except for not knowing what they threw off that stupid bridge. I'm
going with a beloved pet. The song netted 8 Grammy nominations, taking down 4. The song
originally had 11 verses but was cut back to 5 when the potential of a single was realized.
Sure would like to have heard the whole thing. Nine years after the songs release they ruined
it by making a tv movie. I remember seeing it. It was bad. Don't think Bobbie even had any
input to it. In that version it was a ragdoll that was disposed of. This was off of Bobby
Gentrys debut album and there was no hope of ever matching it. She tried for a few albums, then
hung up any more recording around 1971.

Love these guys. Lived close to Boston when they were still playing the clubs there. They were
huge in that area. This is the first single from their first album with a major label. First
time the group had incorporated a string section into their work. Says the song is about
environmentalism and saving the planet and all that good stuff. I just know it's sounds awesome
and that man, devil, God line nails it. The critics gave high marks for this song and it did
well on the Modern Rock chart here but never hit the big one. The band never reached a mass
following but they had me hooked.

Good Lord, this was a hit? Check out those lyrics, so profound. The disco music sucked. And the
live performance clip made it all the worse. I have a Donna Summer Best Of set and I don't
remember this being on there. It probably was which means that I achieved success in blocking
it out of my mind. I blocked out anything disco. Till now anyway, but I will succeed again. The
song is from a concept album, and it closes the album, representing a future sound. It was
adopted in the gay dance clubs and became a gay anthem. The single was cut back from it's
original 6 minutes, for radio play. Wish I would have heard the longer version. It was probably
much more meaningful.
