Listening to TAAB2 - this one is growing on me.

What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 14-02-2013

Next up is Jon & Vangelis's 'Chronicles' - love this album. Heavily synth based 'pop' songs. An unorthodox union but it works for me. Very well too!

What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-02-2013

on Southside Johnny album.....

listened to your favourite track, it was okay, same old-same old 'white boy, blue eyed soul/funk' from the early 1980s,wasnt really my thing back then(well it was for about 5minutes,then it wore thin pretty quick)

ROBERT PLANT & ALISON KRAUSS "raising sand" cd,2007

probably as an unlikely pairing as you would expect to get, but whatever, it works beautifully IMO...
i could have put this one in country, jazz or here, i opted for here for all the Plant fans among us...
a covers album happening here...but not a straight covers collection, they have re-worked these old songs into something totally new that sits alongside their personalities perfectly,
in fact , when i got this i didnt even know a lot of these were covers, so i guess i have ignorance on my side here also...
T-Bone Burnett(elvis costello's producer) takes the reigns on this one and lends a hand on guitar also, and he does a wonderful job twiddling the knobs IMO, the whole thing sounds fresh and alive...
a very, very good album that continues to grow on me everytime i hear it, so it should get a love rating next time round...

The groups debut album. I thought the name of the album was One, as that is on the cover, but
it says self titled album. I have a few of their albums and it is rare that I find a great
track that wasn't a single. So the singles only band tag sticks with me. There is nothing on
this album that I love and four that are bad. Not even the big hit One does it for me. It's not
even my favorite as that goes to the cover of Try A Little Tenderness which fared almost as
well as Otis Reddings version three years earlier. I didn't remember that Harry Nilsson wrote
One. It says that the track was not even on the original release of this album but included on
later ones. I guess I have a later one. I always thought zero would be the loneliest number but
we're all entitled to our opinions. The album reached #11 in the US.

Good thing I didn't start with this second album as my introduction to Sparks, or I may not
have gone any further. Luckily my first purchase was the next one, Kimono My House, which I
fell in love with. Went back and got this much later, and it had to be a let down. Even now
nothing grabs me and there are five tracks that are really bad. Though I don't love it, I am
amazed by the ingenuity put into Do Re Mi. Yes The Sound Of Music song. Not my favorite though,
that goes to Girl From Germany, which was the lone single. This album did not chart at the time
but a tour of England following it's release got the band a cult following there, giving them
the impetus to make it their home base for years to come and it still has the bands loyalist
fans. I remain the bands loyalist american fan.
