^ Yes Angel Flight will do that to ya!

Here's a Can/US artist lesser known...comes in at #64 on Jazzbo's best blues guitarist list!

Love your picks. Mr. Garrett was minorly mistaken--"Sleepwalk" was done on pedal steel, not slide. Here's another by him with an excellent Australasian woman singing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXe-ZnhpNOQ << she's wonderful but it's just not the same. More on her: http://www.reverbnation.com/michellerounds Not the same woman that's married to Rosie O'Donnell.

Can I interrupt this vocal-centric Thread to introduce...Miss Renee Rosnes. An amazing jazz pianist, adaptable enough to play with a wide variety of leaders in many styles, as well as leading her own groups from duo to big band. That's only the start--she's an accomplished song writer/arranger, journalist, host of a radio show celebrating all things jazz Canadian (proud daughter of Vancouver) and anything else she puts her considerable talents to. Got a wicked-funny sense of humor too--she'd kill at stand-up. Married to another monster player, Bill Charlap (they have a terrif ablbum as a duo--Double Portrait). Doubtless a good mother too.
Her radio show: http://www.batteryradio.com/Pages/JazzPortraits.html
Her Website (I only scratched the surface here): http://www.reneerosnes.com/index.php << did I mention her face, those eyes just make me melt?
10 cuts she's proud of: http://www.reneerosnes.com/reneeradio.php
Some stuff I like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN4WGD5-liA << The "About" and "Comments" have it just right
Had to include this AMG review of a project with the Danish Radio Big Band--she not only played, she arranged the whole thing and wrote 5 of the tunes--a serious, serious accomplishment: http://www.allmusic.com/album/renee-rosnes-with-the-danish-radio-big-band-mw0000039433 << it might take a musician/composer to understand this review but what I got was--Mr. Jurek was enraptured. Unfortunately nobody's seen fit to put any of this on the Web, not that I could find anyway.
From Double Portrait: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6thl-UkP-Y and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfFbxvm9uc0 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYtLKm0y9f4 << Not gonna confuse this with Ferrante and Teicher, are you? Ho ho.

True if a bit apocryphal story: Savvy bandleader (a middling club success with a coupla pieces in area distro) needing a guitar for a New Year's gig calls this skinny, inexperienced kid. Not 6 months later, it's the kid's band featuring the pianist. Skinny kid: Chuck Berry. Bandleader: Johnnie Johnson. Renowned for Boogie-woogie but he could play it all, well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1Dcc9DCJ0I << he wrote it and he owns it. Australian tour '03--you lucky ducks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nrs860BrjWA << a little lesson...
A going-nowhere-fast group had the bright idea to enlist Mr. Johnson's playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4qsvzmRm1Y << Tight band, soulful lead singer, good original material
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB9ftKMlFQM << Why they didn't make it = vagaries of fate << actually they did make it, kinda--3 CMA awards but they're not near the top of anybody's list...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ag7Uiz0jAg << practice session--smokes most bands polished product
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMcOX2uAzwI << from that ba-a-ad-ass album they show the cover of
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gNVj-U38i0 << what a hoot!
BONUS #1: I just teased you up there--here's the whole club gig http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-erUKep2wI
BONUS #2: 2 early masters together--Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIVJw8yX6GY&list=PLCF0EBDB226C5DB83 << what she said
BTW #1: If you like boogie-woogie piano, this modern compilation masterpiece is for you: http://www.allmusic.com/album/rockin-eighty-eights-mw0000269324
BTW #2: The Kentucky Headhunters are still together and working the road hard http://kentuckyheadhunters.net/ << MH--this is why I got respect for Kentucky and don't believe all y'all are a bunch of peckerwoods. They also have a disc from 2 years ago that's chuck-full of good country and bluesy stuff (the benefit of having 2 different-sounding lead singers)--top-rated: http://www.allmusic.com/album/dixie-lullabies-mw0002210547

Not least about her is great desire to expose other Canadian artists to the wider world via her unfortunately-defunct CBC Radio2 program The Jazz Portraits.
SPECIAL BONUS: She and husband Bill Charlap on DeeDee Bridgewater's National Public Radio show, JazzSet: http://www.npr.org/2012/10/04/162308624/bill-charlap-and-renee-rosnes-on-jazzset and here's her wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renee_Rosnes

Really not so much--I just go where the research takes me...and try to expose that research to the wider world. Please keep in mind that what I do here is immediate for most (Thrill-of-the-Day) but archival for me.

Now another pianist...and composer...and Berklee Professor. Joanne Brackeen. First woman to gig and record with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Been doing all things jazz musical since the '70's (she's 75). Including both the Wiki and AMG descriptions--Wiki for the discog and AMG for the click-throughs to other musicians/groups/etc.:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPYW76PBoyI <<...and 22 years later in NYC. Every inch the jazzter; every inch a lady.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdJkGW27gYk << read what comment 4 says, then listen for it. I agree. With a top-notch trio here--don't get much better, more empathic than these 2 vets.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnltJdovt-Y << Called "Mist on a Rainbow"--puts you right there. Another on-their-game quartet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWvEK1erD9Q << she didn't do this very often but both parties complement.
