Johnny Copeland The "People's Guitarist" Not fast, not fancy, not especially inventive--but put on a disc and the party commences. He always toured extensively and always played what folks wanted to hear and dance to (Blues, soul, Rock'n'Roll). In later years, more a vocalist than guitar player. You wanna get his disc with Albert Collins and a younger Robert Cray--Showdown <<Shemekia Copeland's dad and he taught her well

Earl King You could make a case that modern N.O. music wouldn't exist without him. From '55-'97, he was involved in every aspect of N.O. recording, and an advanced listener can find his style, tone, technique, and songs in a big bunch of folks that made it bigger (good project for someone, actually). Jeff Healey a little too rock-y, a bit OTT for some blues purists, especially in the middle years. The same could be said about Rory Gallagher and some others. He sure sounds good to me, whatever the iteration...Another one that died too young, with the bitter irony that he'd picked up the trumpet and was decidedly going in a jazz, especially early jazz, direction. Damn shame.
