Music Heads "M" cd's - Jerome - 25-06-2014

I have one of their albums - bought it because the cover looked interesting, but I can't say I liked it. In fact I can't even remember what it's called.

Last thing I bought was a band that CH knows. Couple of weeks ago. Lanark. Before that, Day Behaviour's 'Follow that Car' because of one track that I liked on it.

be honest....
did you like the Lanark album at all?
was it an interesting project to your ears Jerome?

Have not really listened to it yet CH. Just skipped over a couple of tracks - initial impression was it sounded a bit like U2. But I really have not listened properly so I can't give you a verdict.

Right going through the album now

track 1 - I like ambient introductions to albums but this one just does not do it for me. I like the bassy elements but that piano annoys.
track 2 - Sounds like a mix of U2 and Ultravox. it's OK but the vocals don't do anything for me.
track 3 - Definitely a U2 influence in this music. Like the change in the drummer's tempo/style just before the middle of the track. Vocals are jus too indistinct for me - far too much reverb on them.
track 4 - Don't like this one at all - what was the sound engineer thinking of when he recorded those cymbals - completely destroys the track - overworked/overused. track does not really go anywhere - just noodling around - no focal point to the work. Quite like the closing section - could have done the whole track like that - would have been better.
track 5 - This is a bit more interesting but again the vocals get lost in a sea of reverb. Best track so far.
track 6 - First half is just a repeat of what has gone previously - second half of the track gets a bit better - but the whole mix is vague and hazy.
track 7 - pass
track 8 - pass
track 9 - Again the second half is better than the first - but all the tracks are starting to sound the same now - no real change in feel between any of the tracks.
track 10 - pass
track 11 - Interesting start to this one - best track on the album but still not my thing.

Summary - if they cleaned up the excess use of reverb on all the tracks they might have something but to be honest I don't really hear a change in ideas from track to track - it all sounds the same. I am sure it will appeal to some but just not to me.
