Desert Island albums... - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-05-2016 Elvis Costello's "spectacle" is very good, im pretty sure you can buy the series on dvd. he is in a small studio setting and a special guest artist comes out, Elvis interviews him or her about their life, career, and they end up dueting a few tracks through the hour long show... hes had everyone from Springsteen, Bacharach, Lou reed, Diana Krall to Allen Toussaint on the show. his interviews are good because its musician to musician. Jools Holland Show. I think you can buy a compilation boxset of bits from his shows... again, a one hour show, filmed in a studio with audience, he'll usually have five performers on, theres usually a 'legend', a seasoned artist, a new one who may have only had a couple of albums, a newly signed artist maybe releasing their first album, and something foreign to mix things up. the artists all take it in turns to perform in front of the other artists and the audience. Jools, usually jumps on piano and plays with one of the artists on the show. and theres usually a small five minute interview with one artist. incidently, Nick Cave holds the distinction of appearing on his show more than any other artist, if you want a serious music interview based interview show I recommend the Elvis Costello, if you want something more lighthearted with an eclectic mix of performers I suggest Jools. im not sure if you have one of the pay-tv/satellite-tv networks but both shows appear on those. I used to have one of them, but it got too many repeats and commercials after a while so I got rid of it....and I miss those sorts of shows now. For reasons never explained, the number of albums appears to be independent of whether they are single or double albums, or whether they are vinyl, CD, cassette or whatever. Funny things, lifeboats.
