Question - Tiggi - 14-06-2008

No-ones posted on this thread for a while, so...

Whether or not music proves the existence of a divine being, in terms of Western music (so far as I understand it), without the development of early choral tablature we probably would have ended up with very different music ?!

As far as I'm concerned, music as we know it today owes much to Christianity. And I'm sure the link between music & religion is similar the world over.

Big up to the Big G !!

Bumpity Bump !!

Question - CMB1888 - 27-10-2008

I think -

Music affects your emotions - sometimes extremely - and means you sometimes feel like 'something' has been revealed and that's such a powerful feeling I'm not surprised that the 'something' feels like a discovery of something higher either within or outside yourself.

However I personally think that music just resonates with the individual for whatever evolutionary beauty/pattern recognition reasons there are (seems like it's relatively early days for scientific studies on why we all seem to appreciate music though). I also don't think a beautiful sunset proves the existence of god - same sort of thing.

I am a bit puzzled why people sometimes think like this (it came as a shock to me when I realised at age 12 that everyone I knew weren't also pretending to believe in god) but it is intellectually interesting.

Question - Syn - 27-10-2008

personally, i love to read the differant opinions that poeple have.

my views and ideas are edited almost dayly with what i think "the truth" is. i would love to hear from some people who have a religion that they follow (other then christian) and what they think about the subject?

religion or faith?
faith through religion?
faith alone?

which one seems right?

Question - CMB1888 - 27-10-2008

I know what you mean - I don't believe in god and perhaps for that reason I'm hugely fascinated by people's religious beliefs.

Never say never though - although I really think that I've got it right for me - we do all change on a daily basis - I used to wear dark purple lipstick! (think I've aimed that at the right intellectual level)
