Another Leonard Cohen lover, MH ! It took me three or four listens to get Old Ideas...now I like it. I really loved the Avett Brothers The Carpenter !!!!! It warranted several continual plays ..just something about that album????
As for the Mumfords Babel...a good album ...the saviour for me was the phenomenal single I Will Wait!

Here are my 10 favorite albums for 2012. Of course ones that didn't make the cut could be on here also...lol. I haven't listened to a lot of 2012 albums on my list yet !
Maybe I can catch up in the new year before the 2013 list gets larger.
1. The Avett Brothers - The Carpenter - Gorgeous harmonies and great melodic songwriting
2. Alabama Shakes - Boys and Girls - Brittany Horward's voice is a cross between Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin.. a very enjoyable listen of retro rock & soul
3. Anathema - Weather Systems - Straight ahead progressive rock with beautiful orchestral passages and singing
4. The Japandroids - Celebration Rock - Uptempo high energy rock from the Canadian duo of Brian King and David Prowse
5. Blut Aus Nord - Cosmosophy - Black metal from France.....a well produced album with interesting compositions
6. Storm Corrosion - Storm Corrosion- Experimental prog rock collaboration of Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)
7. Porcupine Tree - Octane Twisted - I had to include at least one live album...and this is it...Steven Wilson's band live in Chicago...hard rock, folk, metal, ..it's all here
8. Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Psychedelic Pill - Old style jamming from the band and as usual great songwritng from this Canadian music icon
9. Antibalas - Antibalas - A new discovery ...great Afrobeat, rock and latin jazz ...I love it
10. David Byrne and St. Vincent - Love This Giant - Former vocalist of Talking Heads and Annie Clark (St.Vincent) present a remarkable rock and funk album

From that first " I love to speak with Leonard..." I was sold.
Also, I think that Holland Road may be the best song on the Mumford & Sons album.
