Jim Capaldi died on this day in 2005, of stomach cancer â he was 60. Co-founder of Traffic, drummer, songwriter, skilled lyricist and vocalist, he also released 13 solo albums after Traffic disbanded and wrote and co-wrote many songs that have been performed by other artists â received some awards for that feat too.

John Martyn, OBE died on this day in 2009, from double pneumonia. He was 60. From Wiki â He was described by The Times as "an electrifying guitarist and singer whose music blurred the boundaries between folk, jazz, rock and blues". He made 21 studio albums during his 40 year career and worked with the likes of Clapton, Phil Collins and David Gilmour.

best known for his work as drummer with Buffalo Springfield...
was in several other bands but never really made it outside of the group that featured Stills/Young...

1959, The Big Bopper(aged 28), Richie Valens(aged 17), Buddy Holly(aged 22)
died in a crash shortly after take-off from Clear Lake, Iowa, the pilot of the single-engined Beechcraft Bonanza plane was also killed. Holly hired the plane after heating problems developed on his tour bus. All three were travelling to Fargo, North Dakota, for the next show on their Winter Dance Party Tour which Holly had set - covering 24 cities in three weeks, to make money after the break-up of his band, The Crickets, last year.
it should have been Waylon Jennings on that plane and not Buddy, but the toss of a coin decided Buddy's fate that night!

I'm not really a fan of The Carpenters overall,
The did a lot of covers that were terrible IMO.
And "close to you" is one of those annoying catchy songs
like Minny Ripperton's "loving you", both of which I hate with a passion,
but get stuck in my head after I mention them....
So I best not mention then...la la la,la la"....!!
